Domaine de Cambes
This terroir belongs to Château Roc de Cambes and borders the Gironde estuary, which flows along the hillsides.
These are therefore hillside vineyards, renowned for producing great Bordeaux wines. However, at the Cambes estate, the influence of the Gironde moderates the climate and contributes its silt.
Analysis reveals that the soil is clay-limestone, alkaline, allowing for a long growing season (as the soil retains moisture), resulting in wines that are typically full-bodied and from late harvests.
The grape varieties grown at Domaine de Cambes are Cabernet Franc (about 30%), Malbec (about 5%), and Merlot (about 65%). The wines from Domaine de Cambes are concentrated, fruit-forward, and full-bodied, and are undoubtedly more supple than those from Roc de Cambes. These are, of course, wines meant for aging.
