Château Fleur Haut Gaussens - Cabernet Franc La Bergeronnette 2016

Composed almost entirely of Cabernet Franc, this harmonious and fresh wine impresses with its vibrancy and depth.

For the past half-decade, this Entre-Deux-Mers appellation has been winning over wine lovers with its full-bodied wines, featuring expressive fruitiness that blends beautifully with toasty oak notes.

A 100% Cabernet Franc isn't usually what you'd expect from a Bordeaux or Burgundy wine! This one features juicy, ripe fruit, but still retains the classic pepper notes typical of the variety. The tannins aren't all that subtle, so don't be afraid to pair it with a rib of beef.

The 2016 Bergeronnette is a pure Cabernet Franc from Bordeaux Supérieur. It features a lively bouquet, with hints of green pepper, which complements the “vibrant” black fruit that demands attention. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with captivating black fruit. There is a lovely acidity that ensures a sense of freshness and precision right through to the finish. It’s no surprise that this wine was a hit as a primeur. It is an excellent wine.

Starting with his family’s vineyard on the right bank in Vérac, near Fronsac, Hervé Lhuillier has created a true premium Bordeaux brand, built on the foundations of depth, authenticity, and carefully controlled oak aging. New vines of Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, planted on exposed limestone (the quarries are open to visitors), will soon begin producing grapes. While the density-sorting machine brought greater precision to the 2018 vintage, we remain unsatisfied with the somewhat excessive extraction and aging. Let’s give the wines time to settle before considering removing the star.

An immediately appealing and aromatic wine with fine tannins and rich berry flavors, showing great potential. It is full-bodied, ripe, and will age well. Just wait until 2022.
