Château Marjosse
Château Marjosse, located in Tizac de Curton, has been owned by Pierre Lurton for about fifteen years. From the very first vintages, a commitment to quality has resulted in fine wines and helped establish the Marjosse brand in the Bordeaux market.
Château Marjosse ’s greatest asset is its exceptional terroir. A rarity in the Entre-Deux-Mers region, the Asterias limestone—the same that has made the wines of Saint-Émilion famous—is found here at the surface. Château Marjosse has taken a new leap forward. Several high-quality plots have been added to the vineyard. The red vines, averaging 20 years of age, allow Pierre Lurton and his vineyard manager to select the best plots that will now make up Château Marjosse’s premier wine (approximately 100,000 bottles: half of the production) with the aim of restoring this brand to its former glory. Cultivated in the style of grand cru wines (yield control, optimal grape ripening through strategic leaf removal, etc.), these vines are, in part, harvested by hand. Vinification takes place in an exceptional facility: Les Chais Pierre Lurton.
Built in Grézillac in 2000 and expanded in 2008–2009, these buildings—perfectly integrated into their surroundings and as aesthetically pleasing as they are functional—enable a highly skilled technical team to continue the rigorous selection process begun in the vineyard. The first wine is aged traditionally in oak barrels, while the second wine is aged in tanks to preserve the fruit and produce a round, approachable wine intended for a broader clientele.
