Château de la Grave - Côtes de Bourg Grains Fins 2014
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
" A favorite to be remembered. In fact, as far as the Guide Hachette can remember, this is the first for the appellation in this color; a color that the AOC is working on more and more and which deserved this spotlight. [...] Here, he has produced a white wine made from Sémillon (70%) and Colombard, which has benefited from six months of barrel aging. On the nose, the oak is very present, but it is a refined oak with subtle vanilla tones, in harmony with yellow fruits (dried apricot) and exotic fruits. The fruit is even more expressive, and the same sustained woodiness is found on the palate, which is full-bodied, round, very rich and long, nicely stimulated by a subtle acidity. Patience is required, but pleasure is guaranteed in a few years. (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

About wine:
A favorite to be marked with a white stone. Indeed, as far as the Guide Hachette can remember, this is the first time the appellation has been awarded this color, a color that the AOC is working on more and more and which deserved to be in the spotlight. The Bassereau estate already shone last year, but with its red wine, the 2012 Caractère cuvée. Here, it presents a white wine made from Sémillon (70%) and Colombard, which has benefited from six months of barrel aging. On the nose, the oak is very present, but it is a refined oak with subtle vanilla tones, in harmony with yellow fruits (dried apricot) and exotic fruits. The fruit is even more expressive, and the same sustained oakiness is found on the palate, which is full-bodied, round, very rich and long, nicely stimulated by a fine acidity. Patience is required, but pleasure is assured in a few years' time.
About the estate:
On the heights of Bourg, an estate that has been in the family for over a century, dominated by a small 15th-century castle, renovated in the 19th century, with pepperpot towers. Valérie and Philippe Bassereau took over in 1990. The size of the vineyard (45 hectares) allows them to offer wines that are anything but obscure.

I am a huge fan of this wine. It is undoubtedly too woody for some, too controlled for others. But I love this vintage.

I found it moderately rich and long, moderately aromatic—I expected more from a GH favorite. Tasted again several months later, the wine is richer, more aromatic, longer: better.

A very fine, rather original white wine with a lovely richness and a beautiful length on the palate...

I'm very happy with this wine. It's good and matches the description on the website. For €9.90, it's exactly what I expect from a wine bought on 1jour1vin.
