"Stéphane Donze does not seek power in this medium-bodied wine. Well-spiced, it retains a pleasant, smooth fruitiness without any harshness. At its best. (Le Guide des bonnes affaires du vin 2015 - Gerbelle & Maurange). A Côtes de Bourg with ripe, silky tannins and woody notes that blend subtly into an elegant and powerful body... A beautiful bottle!

Wine rated (2015 guide) 14,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2015 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About wine:

Pleasant, sappy, with rich, well-defined tannins and a fruity finish.

About the estate:

A perfectionist, Stéphane Donze has worked hard to achieve a level of production that is well above the usual standard for winegrowing in the region. After purchasing the estate, he and his wife Lucie spent fifteen years studying and observing the layout of their plots in detail. This groundwork enabled them to achieve, while always staying within the limits of risk, perfect maturity and great precision in their wines.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2014) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

About wine:

Stéphane Donze and his wife settled here in 1994 and have turned this 25-hectare estate into one of the appellation's benchmarks. We particularly remember a remarkable series of Favorites the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. Made from Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec, the 2010 vintage is every bit as good. With its brilliant purple color, it reveals warm aromas of cooked fruit combined with subtle oak. A broad and generous attack preludes a palate in harmony with the nose, with aromas of very ripe fruit enveloping silky tannins. Its pleasantness allows it to be enjoyed as early as the fall, but this wine will benefit from aging for two or three years. It will pair beautifully with meat in sauce.

Wine rated 15.5/20 (Very good)

3-star estate (very high-quality production)

About wine:

Fruity, floral nose. Velvety, full-bodied red.

About the estate:

The Château Martinat vineyard, which now covers 24 hectares, is located in the commune of Lansac, in the Côtes de Bourg appellation; the terroir combines small gravel and red and brown clay soils. The vines, which are around 40 years old on average, are predominantly Merlot (60% to 70% in the blends) and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a little Malbec. Lucie and Stéphane Donze also offer a white wine, made from 100% Sauvignon.

A great purchase from a dream vintage. Superb value for money. Has not yet reached its peak (some tannins need to soften). Will keep for another 10 years without any problem.
