"Château Relais de la Poste's Cuvée Malbec 2016 is aged in dried American oak over a long period. It has a seductive nose of blackberry, dark chocolate and a touch of black pepper that gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight chewiness on the attack, evolving to a fairly lively, white pepper-tinged middle with finer tannins than I expected. The Malbec really comes into its own here, delivering a minty freshness on the finish. Enjoy it over the next 5 or 6 years." (Wine Advocate) A sure bet!

Rated 15/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2021) Sélectionné (An estate or house that has won us over with one or more wines from its production, without us being able to give a general opinion on the style of the entire range)

About the wine:

Very smoky, spicy, morello cherry and blackberry on the nose. Full-bodied on the palate, with fat, rich tannins, vigour and length. Lots of presence and character.

About the domain :

The estate was indeed a coaching inn in the 18th century, but it's only since the beginning of this millennium that it's been making a name for itself in the wine world. Followed by today's specialist in accessible Bordeaux, Olivier Dauga, the vineyard produces fruity, gourmet Côtes de Bourg without any rusticity. This cuvée is made from malbec, a grape variety that was once widely planted throughout the South-West, but is now only grown in the Blayais-Bourgeais region, in Cahors (under the name "cot" or "auxerrois") and also... in Argentina.

A 25-hectare estate in the Blayais and Bourgeais regions, built around an old coaching inn dating back to 1750, and run by Bruno Drode since 1985.
