Château Relais de la Poste - Cuvée Malbec 2016
15/20
Bettane & Desseauve

Robert Parker
“The 2016 Malbec from Château Relais de la Poste is aged in American oak for an extended period. It has an enticing nose of blackberry, dark chocolate, and a hint of black pepper that intensifies in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight chewiness on the attack, evolving into a fairly lively mid-palate tinged with white pepper, with tannins finer than I expected. The Malbec really comes into its own here, delivering a minty freshness on the finish. Enjoy it over the next 5 or 6 years.” (Wine Advocate) A sure bet!

Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)
Rated Estate (2021 Guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)
About the wine:
A very smoky, spicy nose with notes of morello cherry and blackberry; full-bodied on the palate, with rich, velvety tannins, good structure, and a long finish. Lots of presence and character.
About the estate:
The estate was indeed a coaching inn in the 18th century, but it has only been making a name for itself in the wine world since the start of this millennium. Under the guidance of Olivier Dauga, the current expert on affordable Bordeaux wines, the estate produces fruity and indulgent Côtes de Bourg wines, completely free of any rough edges. A cuvée made from Malbec, a grape variety once widely planted throughout the southwest, and which is now found only in the Blayais-Bourgeais region, in Cahors (under the name "cot" or "auxerrois"), but also… in Argentina.
