“Chocolatey aromas, more supple and generous than usual, with structured body and freshness… The wine displays an alluring bouquet, blending toasted notes with those of ripe black fruit, then develops a full-bodied, rich palate supported by powerful tannins. Marsau has become one of the star wines of the small appellations on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. ” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines)

Wine rated (2013 guide) 14,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2015 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the wine:

Chocolatey aromas, softer and more generous than usual, with structured body and freshness… The wine offers an alluring bouquet, blending toasty notes with those of ripe black fruit, then develops a full-bodied, rich palate supported by powerful tannins. Marsau has become one of the star wines of the smaller appellations on Bordeaux’s Right Bank.

About the estate:

Jean-Marie Chadronnier spent many years at the helm of Dourthe-Kressmann before acquiring Château Marsau, which has become one of the standout wines among the smaller appellations on Bordeaux’s right bank. It owes this success to an extremely appealing style, perfected by its owner.

Rated Estate Award-winning Wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Purchased in 1994 by the Chadronnier family, well-known wine merchants in the Bordeaux region, this estate is situated on clay-rich soil where Merlot reigns supreme. After twelve months in oak, its 2009 vintage, with its intense garnet color, reveals toasty aromas enveloped by notes of ripe black fruit. The palate, warm and rich, follows the same aromatic profile, balancing very ripe fruit with roasted notes. Best enjoyed within two years with meat in sauce.

Wine rated (2012 guide) 89/100 (Very good wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

A Merlot with aromas of mocha and black cherry, along with notes of tobacco leaf and coffee. This wine is dense, pure, medium-bodied, full-flavored, and very appealing in its maturity and silkiness. Best enjoyed within the next 5 to 7 years.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2015 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

We stand by our assessment of the 2009 vintage, which returns to a full-bodied, elegant style (with more subtle oak this year), offering the roundness of a beautifully ripe Merlot. Best enjoyed within two to three years.

About the estate:

This is one of the three finest examples of the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, alongside Puygueraud and Les Charmes-Godard. The estate, overseen by winemaker Michel Rolland, is owned by Jean-Marie Chadronnier, former president of the wine merchant CVBG Dourthe-Kressmann. It consistently produces a rich, fruity wine that often exhibits good concentration. Today, Anne-Laurence and Mathieu are gradually taking over the management of the family estate, with Anne-Laurence handling production and communications, and Mathieu overseeing sales.
