Located in the southern Médoc, this vast 60-hectare vineyard, ideally situated near the Châteaux Giscours and Cantemerle on the Macau hill, continues to gain well-deserved recognition. It has been owned by Jean-Pierre Marie since 1996, who works alongside his son Nicolas.

About the wine:

A magnificent nose full of gently sweet blackcurrants. There’s energy and vitality here; right away, you’re met with an explosion of red and black fruits—strawberries and black cherries—that fill the mouth with fruit juice and enticing acidity. Then the tannins step in to provide structure and depth. This wine feels well-crafted, with intensity and precision. The focus is on bright fruit with good acidity. An easy-drinking wine that’s approachable enough to enjoy its youthful energy, but you can also keep it for a few more years. 2023–2035

About the wine:

The first vintage from the estate’s new owners, and a resounding success. An expressive Haut-Médoc with notes of ripe fruit, full-bodied, rich, and powerful on the palate, building to a long, smooth, and silky finish. A “textured” wine that will age well. 2026–2032

The 2019 vintage continues to show promise, and the wine possesses a lovely charm, with a palate that is both smooth and lively, well-structured by the Cabernets, which tighten up the finish and lend a welcome touch of acidity.

For several years now, this estate—ideally situated on the edge of the Margaux appellation—has been producing a wine that offers remarkable value for money. Under the guidance of Annick and Jean-Pierre Marie, it has gradually come into its own, and as the vines have matured, the wine has reached a very high standard, with an appealing style that is nonetheless full of finesse.

About the wine:

Cambon La Pelouse 2019 is a powerful and robust Haut-Médoc. Notes of black cherry, iron, tar, licorice, game, incense, and tobacco lend it a sense of gravitas. There is real depth here, with plenty of character. 2025–2039

It’s beautifully crafted, with creamy, slightly chewy tannins that add depth and body to the wine. It’s medium-bodied to full-bodied, with lovely fruit and hints of chocolate and nuts. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It needs time to develop. Try it after 2023.

Vert de Vin

About the wine:

The nose is aromatic, with a hint of power, a certain intensity, and a fine texture. This wine benefits from being decanted. It features notes of fresh Boysenberry, ripe red berries, and a hint of strawberry, combined with subtle hints of star anise, crisp little plums, and delicate notes of graphite, camphor, and spices, along with a subtle hint of cardamom and a touch of Sichuan pepper (in the background). The palate is fresh and mineral, offering roundness, fruitiness, a hint of richness, a certain indulgence, a touch of creaminess, lovely complexity, a fine texture, a delicate balance within its power, and a subtle concentration. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of crushed blackberry, crushed wild strawberry, and, more subtly, crushed redcurrants, combined with hints of licorice root, pulpy purple plum, as well as a touch of Bourbon vanilla, graphite, and a subtle hint of incense. Good length. A subtle hint of star anise on the finish.
