"Very colorful, fine tannins, long and flavorful, beautiful elegance of texture, brilliant: a true rebirth for this cru, which has been very well restored. The demanding selection of plots used for the grand vin has brought an extra touch of class that makes Malescasse lean toward its neighbors in Saint-Julien."(Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve)

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated 16.5/20 (Reference wine)

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About wine:

Very colorful, fine tannins, long and flavorful, beautifully elegant texture, brilliant: a true rebirth for this cru, which has been very well restored. The rigorous selection of plots used for the grand vin has brought an added touch of class that makes Malescasse lean toward its neighbors in Saint-Julien.

About the estate:

On well-drained gravelly soils, Malescasse is in good hands. A lot of work has been undertaken, first in the vineyard with the removal of tired vines and the planting of high-density plots. The buildings have also been renovated. The wines, which were very classic until now, have already gained in precision and complexity thanks to the interventions of Stéphane Derenoncourt.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2019) 2* Favorite (Remarkable wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

This beautiful estate, which has fully regained its form, offers a wine that lives up to its terroir. Still marked by wood, the emerging bouquet shows promise, as does the palate, where there is a very good balance between the tannins of the grape and those of the wood. Of high quality, the whole is perfectly typified and beautifully crafted.

About the estate:

Eight windows with eight panes: the number eight governs the architecture of the château. Built in 1824 on the highest point of Lamarque, it overlooks a 40-hectare vineyard planted on a ridge of white gravel between Margaux and Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. It was purchased in 2012 from the Tesseron family by entrepreneur Philippe Austruy and his Gema Viticole group.

About wine:

This estate, located in the Gironde port village of Lamarque, produces a richly textured wine with flavors of chocolate and bitter cocoa. This is only an issue for now, as ripe blackcurrant fruit develops beneath the structure to give density, concentration, and a serious wine as it ages. Drink from 2021 onwards.

About wine:

Ripe dark plum fruit and baking spices framed by notes of cedar with an underlying herbal complexity. This leads to a fairly opulent palate delivering muscular tannins with flavors of blackcurrant and blackberry to envelop the whole. Try from 2020.

Quite disappointing, it already seems very mature and lacks body. However, the nose is promising, but there's not much happening on the palate...
