Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About wine:

Progress continues, and this is the best-structured and most complex Listrac we have tasted from this appellation. Excellent value for money.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100

About wine:

The structure is tight and well-anchored, with chewy tannins and concentrated blackcurrant fruit, as well as black pepper spices and tar notes from the oak. It needs time, as was already clear during the primeur, but there is a lot of potential here. 30% new oak and a yield of 40 hl/ha. Tasted twice. 2023–2038

Wine Enthusiast

Wine rated (2021 guide) 91/100

About wine:

The Chanfreau family's original vineyard has produced a dense wine that displays the firm tannins of a Listrac. At the same time, the rich fruit typical of the vintage, derived equally from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, is prominent, giving it good aging potential.

About wine:

Delicious aromas of dried mushrooms and forest floor, with blackcurrant and dried leaves. Some dried citrus zest too. It is medium-bodied with firm, fine tannins. Drink from 2022.

About wine:

This is a recurring theme that is starting to become quite relevant... wines from the Chanfreau vineyards are often significantly influenced by wood. It doesn't really bother me, but I have noticed it for some time now. Here I detect notes of praline, vanilla, and mocha, followed by hints of black berries. On the palate, the wine is delicious, slightly creamy, and perfectly balanced. There is a beautiful harmony between the freshness of the acid structure and the finesse of the tannins. The finish is fruity and persistent. 2023-2036

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 09/25/2024

You're sure to fall in love with this beautiful success story from 2018. Very accomplished and perfectly balanced in maturity. Fonréaud offers abundant intensity of tart fresh fruit (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blueberry), combined with hints of spice and smoke that are found in a powerful, full, and fresh palate, with a rich and velvety texture. The soft, well-integrated tannins, coupled with a firm, slightly tight structure, provide a very nice texture. Consistent and invigorating length, rewarded with a subtle touch of chocolate. This "beautiful baby" promises superb development over the current decade. R.Q/P. Exceptional pleasure. Well-balanced today, this vibrant and refined wine was served after aeration, with skewers of duck gizzards confit accompanied by a pan-fried dish of porcini mushrooms freshly picked in Lozère last weekend. Rating = 4.3.
