Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

Progress continues; this is the best-structured and most complex Listrac we’ve tasted from the appellation. It offers excellent value for money.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2020 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

The structure is tight and well-defined, with chewy tannins and concentrated blackcurrant fruit, along with black pepper spices and tarry notes from the oak. It needs time, as was already evident during the en primeur tasting, but there is a lot of potential here. 30% new oak and a yield of 40 hl/ha. Tasted twice. 2023–2038

Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast

Wine rated (2021 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

The Chanfreau family's original vineyard has produced a full-bodied wine that displays the firm tannins characteristic of a Listrac. At the same time, the rich fruit typical of the vintage—derived equally from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon—is prominent, offering good aging potential.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2021 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

Delicious aromas of dried mushrooms and forest floor, with blackcurrant and dried leaves. There are also hints of dried citrus zest. It is medium-bodied with firm, refined tannins. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100

About the wine:

This is a recurring theme that’s starting to become quite noticeable… wines from the Chanfreau vineyards are often significantly influenced by oak. It doesn’t really bother me, but I’ve been noticing it for some time now. Here I detect notes of praline, vanilla, and mocha, followed by hints of black berries. On the palate, the wine is rich, slightly creamy, and perfectly balanced. There is a beautiful harmony between the freshness of the acidity and the finesse of the tannins. The finish is fruity and lingering. 2023–2036

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Posted on March 7, 2026

A top-class Listrac where aromatic power and remarkable textural finesse combine beautifully. Full-bodied and round, it releases intense aromas of tart fruit, intertwined with subtle spicy and toasty notes, supported by delicate, velvety tannins and an irresistible mineral backbone. The long, invigorating finish leaves a very fine impression. It is a great pity that this Gem such exceptional Gem , has disappeared from 1J1V’s sales. At its peak, this refined 2018 was paired with duck breast with candied figs. Rating = 4.3.
