Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About wine:

The vintage continues to improve: very characteristic of Labarde, firmer than a classic Margaux, more cedar in the Médoc style and Cabernet Sauvignon, and a body that is slightly better defined than some of its peers. Impeccable corks. Great value for money, with a peak around 2031.

About the estate:

Immediately adjacent to Giscours and Siran in terms of vineyard location, this fifth growth classified in 1855 had belonged to MAIF since 1988, which sold it in early 2019 to the Breton group Samsic, headed by Christian Roulleau. The remarkable technical team remains in place around Philippe Roux and Laurent Fortin, setting an example in many areas. They have made significant efforts to renovate the premises with great respect for the environment and to modernize the technical buildings, complemented by a level of viticulture and winemaking that we would like to see more often. The latest vintages have produced well-rounded wines, praised by critics: a powerful and harmonious grand vin and two second wines, Aurore, similar in style to the first, and La Bastide, which is more supple.

Wine rating (2023 guide) 2 stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

A sure bet in the appellation, this cru lives up to its reputation with this beautiful deep purple wine, with complex aromas of spices, graphite, licorice, and smoke. A strong personality that also expresses itself through a full and rich palate, with firm tannins and even a slightly harsh finish. Patience. 2026-2032

About the estate:

After its glory days in the 19th century, this wine fell into decline in the first half of the 20th century, before being revived by the Miailhe family from Siran, the Châtelier family from Champagne, and finally, in 1989, by MAIF, which entrusted its management to André Lurton in 1992. Lurton's daughter, Christine Lurton Bazin de Caix, ran the estate between 2005 and 2013. Laurent Fortin replaced her and in 2014, André Lurton sold his stake to MAIF. The vineyard covers 45 hectares in a single block.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About wine:

It confirms its good qualities. The wine is full-bodied, but also juicy, carried by beautiful fruit and finely coated with wood. A hint of pepper marks the finish.

About the estate:

The estate has been firmly in the running for several vintages now. Laurent Fortin, director of the estate since 2014, has been multiplying initiatives and experiments and expanding the range. He has given new impetus to the estate, which can now be classified as a sure bet. Now in the hands of the Roulleau family, the estate should continue to progress, with very advanced thinking on vine cultivation.

Terre de Vins

Wine rated (2020 guide) 95/100

About wine:

The nose is very expressive with notes of fig, cedar, and large black cherries. The attack is very rich, bursting with freshness, the fruit coats the mouth, the tannins work across the palate for a toasty finish with sweet notes of vanilla. Very enjoyable.

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95-96/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is elegant and offers complexity, a certain controlled concentration, and precision in its construction. There are notes of creamy blackcurrant, pulpy wild strawberry and a hint of violet, combined with touches of crushed raspberry and subtle hints of licorice, caramelization, blueberry, tea, a hint of chocolate, blue plum and a discreet hint of vanilla. The palate is fruity and offers minerality, freshness, juiciness, lovely definition, smoothness, a certain richness, a subtle acidic structure, and an airy approach. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of bright boysenberry, crushed raspberry, and more subtly, pulpy cherry, combined with hints of blueberry, fresh/juicy bilberry, delicate hints of racy/gravelly minerality, and subtle hints of savory flavors, pepper, and sweet blond tobacco. A very nice definition of pulpy/bright/tart fruit. The tannins are precise and offer a fine mellowness. Good length. A little chewiness on the finish/persistence. Nice length (13 caudalies). Sincerity, purity, and sapidity in this lovely wine.
