Margaux
Visit Margaux wine is certainly one of the most renowned in the Médoc in France and abroad. Awarded an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) as early as 1954, the Margaux red wine represents the majority of production, with the exception of a marginal production of white Margaux under the Bordeaux AOC by Château Margaux. Of course, its reputation goes back much further, thanks to the excellence of many of its grands crus, such as Château Margaux, Château Cantenac-Brown and Château Brane-Cantenac, Château LascombesChâteau Rauzan-Ségla, Château PalmerChâteau Prieuré-Lichine, etc.

Strict specifications for an exceptional wine

The vineyards of Margaux wines extends over the Médoc region and can only be produced in five communes: Margaux, Arsac, Soussans, Labarde and Cantenac. Also subject to the rules of the AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protégée) the Margaux wine can only be made from certain grape varieties. For example, you'll find Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot Noir, Cabernet Franc Noir, Cot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon Noir, or the more confidential Carmenère Noir and Malbec in the red wines of Margaux.

Although the soil of the vineyards is largely composed of sedimentary and limestone materials, it is on a plateau of marl that most of the vineyards are planted. grands crus classés are produced. The excellence of these wines is based on the qualities of the Margaux soil, a superb plateau of gravelly alluvium on a limestone or clay-silt layer, the climate, softened by the proximity of the vast Gironde estuary, and excellent natural drainage. These conditions are highly conducive to vine growth and berry ripening. The Margaux vineyard covers an area of almost 1,500 hectares, with a limited annual production of around 63,000 hectolitres.

Prestigious wines and an international reputation

The appellation is home to a number of great houses that share the 21 grands crus classés including one premier cru The Château Margaux. A range of names with an indisputable reputation for quality is available to Margaux wine buyers. Choose from the famous Château Lascombes, Château Marquis-de-Terme, Château Prieuré-Lichine, Château d'Issan and Château Palmer, to name but a few. Since its classification by Napoleon III in 1855, the region has never failed to produce wines of excellent finesse and inimitable character.

Margaux wine tasting according to the rules of the art

By nature, the Margaux wine is an ideal candidate for long cellaring, where it can be aged to develop its full flavour and tasting potential. Some vintages can be kept for several decades without ceasing to improve. For this reason, any tasting must include a preliminary decanting to separate any sediment formed in the bottle over the years spent in the cellar. Margaux wines are served "chambré", at a temperature of between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius, to allow them to reveal their full aromatic potential.
A pure product of the Bordeaux region and the expertise of regional winemakers, Margaux wines are the perfect match for entrecôte à la bordelaise, game or grilled red meat.

Indeed, Margaux wines are characterized by a rare generosity, exceptional finesse and smooth, delicate, complex bouquets that harmoniously blend fruity (raspberry, cherry, redcurrant...), floral (peppery rose, hyacinth...) and spicy, even roasted aromas. The Cabernet Sauvignon asserts an underlying strength and amplitude that translate into beautiful aromatic persistence, without harshness or arrogance. These are excellent wines for laying down. Margaux appellation wines are made from a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is blended with Merlot. Malbec and Petit Verdot are very much in the minority, but are sometimes used as valuable additions.
