Château Duplessis
Château Duplessis is located in the Moulis appellation, one of the six village appellations of the Haut-Médoc (along with Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien, and Listrac). Formerly a hunting lodge, it is said to have once belonged to Armand du Plessis, nephew of Cardinal Richelieu.
2015 marked a turning point and a major renewal for Château Duplessis. Philippe Ferrier succeeded Lucien Lurton, owner since 1960, who had entrusted the vineyard—managed using sustainable farming practices—to his daughter. In 2015, a complete renovation was undertaken, from the buildings to the cellar, along with changes to the winemaking process. Today, this Cru Bourgeois has been given a fresh new look with a new label for the 2015 vintage.
The Château Duplessis vineyard spans 23 hectares, planted with vines averaging twenty-five years of age, on clay-limestone and clay-loam soils. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (65%), which expresses itself particularly well on these soils, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (29%), Cabernet Franc (5%), and Petit Verdot (1%).
