Wine rated (2018 guide) 93/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Deep garnet in color, the 2016 D'Armailhac opens with aromas of rich blackcurrant liqueur, blackberry tart, and blackberries, along with notes of a box of chocolates, roses, and charcoal, with a hint of dried sage. Medium-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid structure, firm, grainy tannins, and wonderful freshness, with a long, earthy finish.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 17,5/20 (Great wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The densest and most powerful wine in the estate's history. It nevertheless retains great elegance and balance thanks to a perfectly integrated acidity. An absolute delight.

About the estate:

Effectively managed by the Mouton Rothschild team, Château d'Armailhac is an excellent value for wine lovers. Its very reasonable price and consistent quality make it a must-have wine. The vineyard’s location on gravelly hillsides near Mouton Rothschild and Pontet-Canet is of high quality, and the blend includes a good percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Under the guidance of Philippe Dhalluin, the wine has gained in structure over the past decade, and it is always fun to compare it to its stablemate Clerc Millon, which relies more heavily on Merlot.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

This is a ripe wine, bursting with black fruit and featuring appealing tannins. It has depth, but the wine is primarily fruit-driven and shows relatively rapid development. Already delicious and slightly spicy, it’s best enjoyed starting in 2022.

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2019 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

This is a very well-crafted d'Armailhac, displaying blackcurrant and fruit tea with hints of bark on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, very firm, and well-structured, with a long, powerful finish. Direct and linear. Try it after 2023.
