Château Clerc Milon
Château Clerc Milon was acquired in 1970 by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who set out to restore its status as a Cru Classé. Thanks to Baroness Philippine, Clerc Milon—one of the most highly regarded châteaux in the Bordeaux region—now boasts technical facilities and reception areas worthy of its reputation.
Château Clerc Milon now comprises 40 hectares of vineyards, located in the northeastern part of the Pauillac appellation. It occupies most of the beautiful Mousset hill, which overlooks the Gironde River. Viticulture here is practiced using integrated methods, with respect for the environment and strict limits on the use of pesticides. The vineyard is subject to careful monitoring and strict plot-by-plot selection, which are on par with those practiced at Château Mouton Rothschild.
The new fermentation cellar was designed to adapt to the mosaic of plots and provide maximum flexibility in receiving the grapes. During the harvest, as at Mouton, the grapes are picked entirely by hand and placed in 12-kilo crates.
The aging process at Château Clerc Milon lasts 16 to 18 months, with 40% of the wine aged in new oak barrels. The humidity in the cellar is maintained at approximately 80% using ultrasonic humidifiers, and the temperature ranges between 14 and 16°C. A wine with great aging potential, Château Clerc Milon is a successful blend of gravel and clay-limestone terroirs and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties. Powerful, tannic, fruity, and harmoniously structured, it possesses all the elegance typical of the finest Pauillac wines.
