"Rated 100/100—Refinement, elegance, and perfection are the watchwords!"

“As always, Lafite Rothschild displays finesse and depth. The tannins are exceptionally precise, and the wine stands out for its 12.5% alcohol content… Deep and subtle, it doesn’t seek to show off and features precise, supportive tannins with a fine grain. You can really sense its greatness—that unchanging quality—even in wines that are in ‘hibernation’ mode. Every year, it seems to me that Lafite rises above the vintage; it follows its own path, its own logic. For me, it is one of the greatest successes of the vintage. It doesn’t overwhelm; it speaks calmly, serenely, and clearly. That is the essence of its strength.” (Yves Beck 2022) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve

5-Star-Rated Estate (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the estate:

A premier cru of Pauillac, Lafite owes its unparalleled finesse to its gravel soils in the northern part of the appellation, set on a limestone base, along with extremely rigorous selections that discard more than half of the harvest. Strongly dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon—often accounting for more than 90% of the blend—Lafite shines with notes of cedar and graphite that take more than fifteen years to fully develop. The new team in charge of the estate (Saskia de Rothschild and Éric Kohler) is committed to adding more depth to both the first wine and the second wine.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

A former seigneury whose jurisdiction extended north of Pauillac, the estate owes its château and its winemaking tradition—established as early as the 17th century—to the Ségur family, Bordeaux parliamentarians and major vineyard owners, a tradition that earned it the status of a First Growth in 1855. But it owes its survival—having remained untouched by the divisions and sales that weakened so many prestigious estates—to the Rothschilds, who acquired it in 1868. It also owes its modernization and state-of-the-art facilities—such as its famous circular wine cellar designed by Ricardo Bofill—to the team led by Éric de Rothschild, who has been at the helm since 1974, and Charles Chevallier, its technical director until 2016. These facilities allow the estate to fully reveal the character of an exceptional terroir planted with 112 ha of vines: a superb hilltop of fine, deep gravel over a limestone subsoil. In 2016, Éric Kohler took over as Lafite’s technical director, while Charles Chevallier remains a consultant and ambassador for the château.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 100/100

Rated estate (2022 guide): 3*Stars (These represent the pinnacle of French winemaking. The finest terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical experience)

About the wine:

With an alcohol content of less than 13, Lafite demonstrates that the true character of a great Médoc wine lies not in richness but in the subtlety and complexity of its aromas. With an ethereal grace and superb definition, the wine leaves a lasting impression on the palate, prolonged by Lafite’s legendary “graphite” tannins.

About the estate:

Masterful, Lafite stands out as the most refined of the Médoc wines when, after a few years of aging, it unfurls its captivating aromas of graphite and pencil lead. Tasting it is like discovering a unique texture and vitality. A vast estate spanning 178 hectares, 105 of which are planted with vines, Lafite has been owned by the Rothschild family since 1868. The château can also boast one of the richest collections of (very) old vintages, which demonstrates just how consistently exemplary the estate has been (with the exception of a few vintages). Saskia, daughter of Éric de Rothschild, took over as head of the group’s estates in 2018, while Éric Kholer has overseen winemaking since 2016. Of note in recent vintages is the progress made by the second wine, Les Carruades.

About the wine:

Structured, full-bodied, and intensely concentrated, this wine is magnificent. Its dark fruit and body hint at the wine’s power and aging potential. At the same time, the wine possesses the elegance that is always associated with this estate. Best enjoyed starting in 2028.

About the wine:

Surprising aromas of tobacco, crushed stone, a cigar box, currants, tar, and graphite, as well as spices, iron, and dried ginger. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it is dense and tight. Very compact and complex. Distinctive. Delicate yet powerful. Notes of orange peel. A wine to savor. You have to understand this wine to understand the great Lafites of the past and those of the future. Only 12.8% alcohol. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. Best after 2030, but drink it if you’re lucky enough to taste it.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 100/100

About the wine:

Château Lafite-Rothschild 2020 is a sensational wine composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and the remainder Petit Verdot, with a natural alcohol content of 12.8% and a pH of 3.94. This ultra-classic wine reveals a dense ruby-plum hue and a tight, layered bouquet of ripe blackcurrant, smoked tobacco, freshly sharpened pencils, graphite, and subtle spices. Perfectly balanced, deep, concentrated, and layered, it offers an incredible mid-palate, flawless tannins, and a mouthwatering finish. Refinement, elegance, and perfection are the watchwords here. Unfortunately, it is not meant for immediate enjoyment, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes 15 years to reach the early stages of its prime drinking window. It will likely reach its 100th anniversary in top form. 2038–2113
