Château Couhins
Château Couhins is owned by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), which bought it in 1968. Located in Villenave d'Ornon, on the outskirts of Bordeaux, and under the management of Dominique Forget, Château Couhins is once again a rising star, and is now on a par with its peers in the Grand Crus Classés de Graves classification.
The Château Couhins vineyard, which covers 19 hectares of red and 6 hectares of white, is a vast field of viticultural experimentation and research, as well as production. The terroir consists of a gravelly hilltop, a clay hillside on a limestone base and a sandy-clay zone. The vines are cultivated according to environmentally-friendly principles, and the best winemaking and ageing techniques are applied.
Château Couhins wines are renowned for their quality, with a white classified Grand Cru that shines for its delicate bouquet of spring flowers, its fullness and vivacity, and a red with supple tannins, refined aromas and great finesse on the nose and palate.
