"Clémentin de Pape Clément 2019 is a magnificent second wine that captures all the personality of the Grand Vin in a more accessible profile that will be ready to drink upon release. Rated estate (2019 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Its name alone is enough to describe the status this estate has enjoyed for thirty years. Everything here borders on perfection: the whites and reds are elegant and sophisticated.

Decanter

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About wine:

Aroma of blackcurrant, black pepper, and milk chocolate. It displays a beautiful definition of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. A little too much acidity, but it's well done. Fresh and lively, but perhaps not so layered. Fine tannins coat the palate and provide gentle support. Still a little woody at this stage. Drinking potential: 2024-2035.

Rated estate (2019 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Bernard Magrez, who also owns the La Tour Carnet (Haut-Médoc) and Fombrauge (Saint-Émilion) châteaux, has made this property his flagship. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to produce the finest wine possible. The search for optimal ripeness, hand-picking, luxurious aging... This is the archetype of the great modern luxury Bordeaux, which seduces immediately and evolves with great charm. On the flip side, some vintages have sometimes been excessive. Time then puts things back in place and calms the wine's ardor, as the terroir eventually takes over. However, since the 2012 vintage, there has been a noticeable change in style, moving towards wines that are less marked by the sometimes excessive pursuit of maturity and towards less assertive aging, which is clearly evident in our latest tastings, particularly with the 2015 vintage. The estate produces a small quantity of a delicately musky white wine (partly aged in ovoid concrete vats), whose elegance places it at the top of the Sauvignon-dominated Graves wines.

About wine:

A medium-bodied red with blackberries and crushed stones. Aromas of walnuts and pine as well. Medium, round tannins and a juicy finish. Second wine of Pape Clément. Drink after 2024.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 91/100

About wine:

A soft, smoky aromatic profile with notes of tobacco leaves, espresso, pencil lead, and red berries. On the palate, the wine is round, polished, sweet, and fruity. There is depth, character, and a burst of ripe red berries on the finish. Enjoy it while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2023 to 2034.
