“The 2011 Pape Clément offers notes of pencil shavings, charcoal, barbecued meat, black cherry, blackcurrant, and plum. It is a full-bodied, dense, and precise wine, endowed with beautiful elegance. Purity, presence on the palate, and a complex aromatic palette always work wonders in a Pape Clément. This vintage should be enjoyed over the next 15 to 24 years.” (Wine Advocate Apr. 2012 - Robert Parker) • Delivered in a wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine shipped within France •

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated (2012 guide) 17/20 (Outstanding)

About the wine:

While still a bit young today, this wine is built for the future. Its dense tannins and restrained power will come into their own over time. It will open up and express its rich, flavorful black fruit with great intensity.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 17/20 (Great wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Bernard Magrez, who also owns Château La Tour Carnet (Haut-Médoc) and Château Fombrauge (Saint-Émilion), has made this estate his flagship. Nothing is left to chance in the quest to produce the finest wine possible. The pursuit of optimal ripeness, hand-destemming, luxurious aging… This is the archetype of the modern, luxurious Bordeaux, one that captivates immediately and evolves with great charm. On the flip side, some vintages have occasionally veered into excess. Time then sets things right and calms the wine’s fiery spirit, as the terroir eventually reasserts itself. However, since the 2012 vintage, a shift in style has been noticeable, moving toward wines less marked by the sometimes excessive pursuit of ripeness, and toward less aggressive aging, which was clearly evident in our recent tastings, particularly with the 2015 vintage. The estate produces a small quantity of a white wine (aged partly in ovoid concrete tanks) that is delicately musky and possesses an elegance that places it at the forefront of Sauvignon-dominated Graves wines.
