"The best value for money on the Right Bank! ~ Terre de Vins"

"A pure velvet robe, already magnificent, but that's nothing compared to the captivating, rich nose, with bright, intense, sweet aromas of black cherry and fruit leather, edged with a subtle hint of Havana. Very full attack, then a tight palate with a mineral edge. There was a lot of substance, very ripe, which the estate team brought to elegance. Melted tannins, silky texture. Very significant progress." (Terre de Vins 2020)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Yann and Karl Todeschini have taken stock of this family estate in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse: it comprises 34 hectares of vineyards in a single block on four types of terroir, dominated by clay-limestone soils. The wines are dense, powerful, and compact, and must be aged or decanted two hours before serving.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

The vineyards founded in 1951 by Jean Petit comprise 37 hectares of contiguous land in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, on a terroir rich in asteriated limestone (Mangot, an ancient vineyard mentioned as early as 1510), and 16 hectares in Castillon (La Brande), rigorously managed since 1989 by Jean-Guy and Anne-Marie Todeschini, joined in 2008 by their sons Karl and Yann. The vineyard has been fully certified organic since 2020 and is in conversion to biodynamics.

Wine rating (2022 guide) 92/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

Bursting from the glass with notes of more, sweet red berries and hints of licorice, Mangot 2019 is medium-bodied to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with beautifully powdery tannins and a succulent fruit core. Generous, charming, and lively, it has transformed beautifully. Traditional barrels are complemented by amphorae in the cellar. 2021-2043

About the estate:

First mentioned in 1546, Château Mangot has stood the test of time and is now a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in the commune of Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, in the eastern part of the appellation. In 1952, Simone and Jean Petit bought Mangot with the idea of restoring it to its former glory. In 30 years, they expanded the estate from 5 to 37 hectares. In 1989, their daughter and her husband, Anne-Marie and Jean-Guy Todeschini, took over, restructuring the vineyard and modernizing the facilities. In 2008, Karl and Yann, after studying and completing internships in France and abroad, joined their parents to bring enthusiasm, precision, and modernity to the business. What do these three generations have in common? A philosophy: to act in the simplest and most natural way possible, using common sense and a down-to-earth approach. Integrated pest management was chosen to preserve the natural balance. In the cellar, the work is done on a plot-by-plot basis to fully express each of the estate's 22 plots. The family also owns 25 hectares in Castillon, with Château le Brande.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100

About wine:

This bouquet is highly precise and relevant, combining intensity and complexity. Chalky and fruity notes. On the palate, the wine is juicy, compact, and endowed with tight tannins. These tannins lend fullness and depth while complementing the crisp, incisive acidity. A wine of character, with a juicy, slightly salty finish. It has a few years ahead of it. 2025-2044

Wine Green

Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is fresh, racy and offers brightness, lovely power, a certain intensity and a discreetly tight grain. There are notes of bright blackcurrant, wild blackberry and, more subtly, ripe/pulpy wild black berries combined with a touch of violet, graphite and subtle hints of camphor, a sense of place (local biotope/Mediterranean barrier) and subtle hints of blueberry, cocoa, toasted notes and an imperceptible hint of roasted/toasted herbs. The palate is fruity, elegant and balanced, offering a lovely acidic structure, smoothness, juiciness, freshness, a lovely acidity, an airy approach, good finesse of grain and a certain crunchiness of the fruit. A very nice finesse in the power of the structure. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of crisp/juicy blackcurrant, juicy redcurrants and, more subtly, fresh flowers combined with hints of fresh/crisp blueberry, hints of camphor, graphite, cardamom, as well as subtle hints of cocoa, toast and a subtle hint of star anise (in the background). The tannins are precise and finely powdered.
