Terre de Vins
"Clos des Jacobins presents itself with ripe fruit and a lovely freshness. Crisp and sapid on the palate, al dente fruit, lovely tone, precise tannins, pleasant tension. It is a fresh and pleasant wine, with a certain richness, very much in keeping with the spirit of the vintage. Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2019 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
This 8.5-hectare vineyard, now owned by Bernard Decoster's family, has continued to improve throughout the decade, reaching a level never seen before. La Commanderie, another family vineyard, produces a more supple and immediately appealing wine. These Côte wines need time to develop their finesse.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2019 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
After gaining experience in the Bordeaux vineyards, Thibaut and Magali Decoster took over two Saint-Emilion vineyards in 2004: Clos des Jacobin, 8.5 hectares of clay-limestone soil at the foot of the hill, classified since 1955, and Ch. la Commanderie, 6 hectares at the top of a gravelly hilltop, classified since 2012. In 2017, they took over the operation of Ch. Candale and Roc de Candale (8 hectares on clay-limestone soil), opening a restaurant and a shop, combining their two passions: vineyards and the art of living.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated estate (2019 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)
About the estate:
Long owned by the Cordier family, Clos des Jacobins passed into the hands of former perfumer Marionnaud in 2001, then to the Decoster family (heirs to the Legrand electrical group) in 2004. After a turbulent start to the millennium, this historic brand from the "West Coast" of Saint-Émilion has regained true stability under the committed leadership of Thibaut and Magali Decoster, asserting its style with serene, richly fruity and expressive wines. With the support of Hubert de Boüard, the estate's consultant, this positive trend is set to continue, reflecting the gradual agronomic improvements made to the vineyard management. Also owners of Château La Commanderie in the Ripeau sector, the Decoster family acquired Château Candale (February 2017) to the east of Saint-Émilion, whose restaurant now serves as a showcase for the production of the three estates.

About wine:
While this wine is rich, it also has style and delicious potential. The blackberry and hints of wood aging show that it is still young. These elements will blend well as the wine ages, resulting in a mature wine full of Merlot fruit, ready to drink from 2025 onwards.

About wine:
Clos des Jacobins 2018 is absolutely magnificent. Smooth, supple, and beautifully textured, this 2018 displays an elegant personality with real poise. Delicious notes of black cherry, mocha, espresso, spice, and gravel blend together in this creamy Saint-Émilion, which is truly enjoyable to drink today. A well-judged kiss of French oak lingers on the long finish. 2026–2038

Yves Beck
Wine rated (2020 guide) 94/100
About wine:
Subtlety and complexity in this bouquet with hints of licorice and blackcurrant as well as a touch of cinnamon. On the palate, finesse is the common thread running through this wine; the tannins are fine, perfectly integrated, and somewhat tight. They lend fullness and go hand in hand with the liveliness of the acidic structure. The fruit also reveals itself delicately, reaching its fullness on the finish. Lingering finish. A great success. 2025-2042
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2019 guide) 94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About wine:
The nose is elegant and offers racy power, intensity, depth, and concentration. There are notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, juicy raspberry and, more subtly, small berries combined with hints of bright/fleshy damson plum, violet/lily, wild blackcurrant, wild black berries and subtle hints of caramelization, toast, a very discreet hint of tobacco, hazelnut, and vanilla. The palate is nicely defined, fresh, racy, harmonious, indulgent, precise, and offers lovely power, a subtle straightforwardness, fullness, and fleshy/pulpy fruit. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fleshy/juicy blackberry, pulpy/juicy plum and, more subtly, fleshy raspberry, combined with hints of crushed red berries, lily, violet, bright black plum, as well as subtle hints of chocolate, caramelization and a very subtle hint of hazelnut/toasted notes. Good length and persistence. The tannins are well-balanced, racy and structuring. A very subtle hint of saltiness on the finish/persistence.
