" It came close to Favorite, this 2016 with its intense nose of raspberry, kirsch and blueberry, underlined by fine notes of coconut. On the palate, it's archetypal in its fleshiness and density. Its powerful tannins are enveloped and the long finish respects the fruit. A wine for the future, combining power and elegance". Domaine rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
Jean-Pierre Savare, Parisian businessman and vineyard owner, bought this seven-hectare vineyard in early 2018, in partnership with the Cazeneuve family (Château Paloumey, cru bourgeois in Haut-Médoc). Martine Cazeneuve has taken over the management of Franc-Mayne. This silky-bodied, long-lasting wine has gained in distinction and depth since the 2018 vintage.

About the wine:
It came very close to Favorite, this 2016 with its intense nose of raspberry, kirsch and blueberry, underlined by fine notes of coconut. On the palate, it's archetypal in its fleshiness and density. Its powerful tannins are enveloped and the long finish respects the fruit. A wine for the future, combining power and elegance. 2023-2030.
About the domain :
Franc-Mayne, a classified growth from the outset (1959), with a totally renovated 7-hectare vineyard and well-situated on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, was taken over in 2018 by the Savare family. Notourism, the estate's other specialty, remains a priority for the new team led by Martine Cazeneuve, with the opening of five guest rooms in spring 2019.

About the domain :
Thomas Savare, whose family company Oberthur fiduciaire is one of the world's leading high-security printers, has taken over the estate on behalf of the family, entrusting management to Martine Cazenave, who after getting the chateau up and running hands over to Pierre Arnald. Sophie Mage (formerly of Château Grillet in Condrieu) continues to manage the technical side of the business. The change in the structure of the wines is dazzling. Taking advantage of a handful of parcels on five terroir units, the new team has launched a program to restructure the vineyard, which is now organically grown. The Cabernet Franc vines have been uprooted, and will be replanted once the soil has been cleared of nematodes and parasites, the vine's enemies. As a result, future vintages will be all Merlot "à la bourguignonne", the result of plot-by-plot selections backed up by meticulous cellar management. Intimate and refined, Franc Mayne unites the art of entertaining with the art of winemaking for a classified growth that will soon be making a name for itself.

About the wine:
It has an elegant, dynamic feel of blackcurrant, raspberry and blackberry, accented by light notes of anise and apple wood. The finish is subtly grippy, with a hint of bramble adding texture and energy. Yummy. Drink now through 2035. - JM

About the wine:
Franc-Mayne 2016 presents a precise bouquet of blackberries, wild strawberries and flowers (rose petals) that gains in intensity with just a few swirls of the glass. Very sensual! The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. It tightens towards the finish, but offers plenty of substance and body. It seems to have acquired the persistence I was looking for 12 months ago. Great potential. Tasted blind at Southwold's annual tasting. 2022-2040

About the wine:
Purple with violet highlights. Franc Mayne's bouquet is complex and subtle. I detect notes of pepper, black berries and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and juicy. The tannins are elegant, well integrated and in harmony with the structure. The structure supports the aromatic expression well, right through to the finish. This Franc Mayne stands out for its elegance and its ability to reconcile power and delicacy. Well done! 2022-2036
