" It came close to Favorite, this 2016 with its intense nose of raspberry, kirsch, and blueberry, underscored by subtle notes of coconut. On the palate, it is archetypal in its fleshiness and density. Its powerful tannins are enveloped and the long finish respects the fruit. A wine with a bright future that combines power and elegance. Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, consistent with what one would expect from its appellation(s))
About the estate:
Jean-Pierre Savare, a Parisian businessman and wine estate owner, purchased this seven-hectare vineyard in early 2018, in partnership with the Cazeneuve family (Château Paloumey, a cru bourgeois in Haut-Médoc). Martine Cazeneuve took over the management of Franc-Mayne. This silky-bodied wine with a clean finish has gained in distinction and depth since the 2018 vintage.

About the estate:
Franc-Mayne, classified since its inception in 1959, with its 7-hectare vineyard completely renovated and well located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, was taken over in 2018 by the Savare family. Wine tourism, another specialty of the estate, remains a priority for the new team led by Martine Cazeneuve, with the opening of five guest rooms in spring 2019.

About the estate:
Thomas Savare, whose family business Oberthur Fiduciaire is one of the world's leading high-security printers, took over the estate on behalf of the family, entrusting its management to Martine Cazenave, who, after getting the château up and running, handed over the reins to Pierre Arnald. Technical management remains in the hands of Sophie Mage (formerly of Château Grillet in Condrieu). The change in the wine's structure has been dramatic. Taking advantage of a handful of plots across five terroirs, the new team has launched a program to restructure the vineyard, which is now cultivated organically. The Cabernet Franc vines have been pulled up and will be replanted once the soil has been cleared of nematodes and parasites, which are enemies of the vine. As a result, future vintages will be exclusively Burgundy-style Merlot, produced from selected plots and carefully crafted in the cellar. Intimate and refined, Franc Mayne combines the art of hospitality with that of winemaking to produce a classified growth that is sure to make a name for itself.

About wine:
It offers an elegant and dynamic sensation of blackcurrant, raspberry, and blackberry, accentuated by light notes of anise and apple wood. The finish is subtly grippy, with a hint of bramble that adds texture and energy. Yum. Drink now through 2035. - JM

About wine:
Franc-Mayne 2016 presents a precise bouquet of blackberries, wild strawberries, and flowers (rose petals) that gains intensity with just a few swirls of the glass. Very sensual! The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. It tightens towards the finish but offers plenty of substance and body. It seems to have acquired the persistence I was looking for 12 months ago. Great potential. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2022-2040

About wine:
Purple with violet highlights. Franc Mayne's bouquet is complex and subtle. I detect notes of pepper, black berries, and spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and juicy. The tannins are elegant, well-integrated, and in harmony with the structure. The structure supports the aromatic expression well, right through to the finish. This Franc Mayne stands out for its elegance and its ability to combine power and delicacy. Bravo. 2022-2036
