About the estate:
A small 2.7-hectare estate planted on sandy-clay soil, with 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, La Confession is one of Jean-Philippe Janoueix’s signature wines. A generous, full-bodied wine with a finish marked by its Cabernet Franc, this La Confession offers more than just immediate pleasure. The 2018 vintage marks a turning point, with greater freshness and elegant tannins.

About the estate:
The son of Jean-François Janoueix, Jean-Philippe Janoueix first established himself in Lalande (Château Chambrun, sold to Silvio Denz) before founding Château La Confession in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in 2001, a merger of the Barreau and Haut-Pontet estates. He also produces Bordeaux Supérieur (Croix Mouton), Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion (Cap Saint-Georges), and Pomerol.

About the wine:
Subtlety and complexity are integral to La Confession… both on the nose and on the palate. Such precision and such well-defined tannins, with a beautiful, fine-grained texture. The wine has tension, density, and length. It warrants some aging. 2024–2039

About the wine:
The nose is powerful and aromatic, with a fine texture, concentration, and good definition. It features notes of blackcurrant and morello cherry, along with more subtle hints of wild blueberries, combined with touches of licorice and fresh blond tobacco, as well as hints of black pepper, cardamom, black tea, and subtle hints of vanilla bean. The palate offers power, good definition, concentration, and a lively acidity. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy, ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and, more subtly, wild berries, combined with hints of crushed raspberry, blueberries, black tea, and hints of vanilla. The tannins are finely grained and pronounced. A very subtle hint of caramelization on the finish and in the aftertaste.
