"As usual, the 2011 Pipeau is an exuberant, richly fruity wine with a dark color, for immediate enjoyment. It offers abundant aromas of black cherry and spicy notes, supple tannins, and a medium-bodied palate. The revelation of the vintage, this little bomb of silky fruitiness should drink well for a decade." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker) - "This estate no longer surprises us, such is the impeccable quality of its wines!" " ( RVF No. 587, December 2014) - Last bottles of the vintage!

About the estate:

A sure bet in the appellation, this estate located at the foot of the Saint-Laurent valleys became part of the Mestreguilhem family in 1929. The 7 hectares at the time have now grown to 26. The property has been run since 1983 by Richard Mestreguilhem, joined in 2014 by his son Jean, an agricultural engineer, who is now in charge of technical management.

A wine that is already well opened and can be enjoyed today. With a fairly pronounced Merlot character, this bottle offers good value for money.

Review and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 08/30/2015

Unlike many other commentators, I wasn't really convinced by this 2011 Pipeau. In my humble opinion, it's quite different from a classic Saint Emilion and closer to a Haut-Médoc. What's more, I don't think its price tag of around €18 is justified.
