“Bold and alluring, it certainly stands out with its exceptional fruity profile and beautiful depth!”

“The nose, with perfectly ripe fruit and the freshness of a garden after the rain, is a pure delight. On the palate, a crisp clarity highlights delicate notes of fruit and fresh flowers, along with a delightful hint of coffee. In our opinion, this is Villemaurine’s best vintage. ” (Le Figaro 2021) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 3 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2016 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

This estate is superbly situated at the northern edge of the village of Saint-Emilion, next to Trottevieille, on the limestone plateau. Taken over in 2007 by wine merchant Justin Onclin, who also owns Moulis Branas Grand Poujeaux, it produces powerful and balanced wines—classic of this region—which, over the past three years, have developed the finesse demanded by what is proving to be a truly exceptional terroir.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Aromas of ripe, sweet fruit—a rich, intensely fruity nose. Beautiful texture and ample, dense ripe fruit from start to finish. I appreciate the precision and boldness of this wine; it is undoubtedly powerful, rich, and ripe, but for now it presents itself in a fairly linear and well-defined manner. Flamboyant and expressive, it offers an exceptional fruity profile—cherries and blackcurrants—with velvety tannins that provide suppleness and structure. Bold and seductive, it does not go unnoticed, with a “Look at me” quality. A very pleasant glass of wine—to be treasured. 2025–2045

Rated wine (2023 guide) 2* Stars (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

Aged luxuriously for 18 months in oak barrels, this 2019 vintage offers a warm, spicy, and chocolatey nose. A fresh attack gives way to a full-bodied, substantial palate with silky tannins, underpinned by toasty oak notes that frame the wine’s structure. Long and intense, this complex wine will age well. 2025–2035

About the estate:

A winegrower in the Médoc (Branas Grand Poujeaux in the Moulis AOC), Justin Onclin expanded his holdings to Saint-Émilion in 2007 with the acquisition of this 7-hectare estate, which lies alongside the moat of the medieval town; he has completely renovated both the vineyards and the winery.

Rated estate (2016 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Located on the outskirts of Saint-Emilion, Villemaurine was acquired in 2007 and renovated by Belgian wine merchant Justin Onclin, who also owns Branas Grand Poujeaux in Moulis. Well-rated in 2009 and 2010, the château owes part of its success to a new gravity-fed winery and the meticulous care taken in sorting the grapes harvested from the plateau. Villemaurine changed consultants in 2012; Hubert de Broüard’s team replaced that of Stéphane Derenoncourt. "Our priority, now more commercial in nature, is to work on our image deficit," explains Justin Onclin, its owner. An underdog confirming its success.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

The nose offers aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, chocolate, forest floor, sandalwood, sage, and spices. Pure fruit. A medium-bodied to full-bodied wine with fine, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Silky texture and excellent balance. A long, flavorful finish. Best enjoyed starting in 2025.
