Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
This world-renowned wine is produced in Marbuzet, a hillside facing the Gironde River. Its vineyards are situated halfway between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. Henri Dubosq, a leading figure in the Médoc, has been crafting the estate’s wines with great success since 1982. In 2006, he partnered with Michelin-starred chef Philippe Jorand to enhance the 13 hectares of Château Layauga-Duboscq, situated on prime terroirs around Gaillan and Queyrac. The wines of Haut-Marbuzet have always been full-bodied, combining roundness and richness, with excellent aging potential. Haut-Marbuzet is truly a must-visit estate within the appellation.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated wine (2025 guide): 2 stars (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
A 2021 that displays fine austerity at this stage, with a nose marked by oak and oriental spices that already hints at emerging complexity: black fruit, forest floor, game, and pencil lead. Firm on the attack, with beautiful density of texture, structured by a tannic framework that is both thick and well-integrated, the palate reflects the wine’s strong character. The long finish bodes well for the future. One thing is certain: the future belongs to this wine. 2028–2035

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100
Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
True to form, Haut-Marbuzet has crafted a 2021 vintage full of charm—a silky wine with a velvety texture and beautifully integrated tannins. The Merlot grapes lend it a lovely roundness and the smoothness that makes it so popular.
About the estate:
No other Bordeaux estate can claim to have such a devoted community of enthusiasts. For over thirty years, Haut-Marbuzet and its colorful and dynamic owner, Henri Dubosq—now supported by his sons—have won the hearts of discerning wine lovers. While these wines have long been considered charming in their youth (which they undeniably are), yet limited in terms of aging potential, one must taste the mature vintages of this Saint-Estèphe estate to understand that its terroir is above all capable of producing wines that age beautifully. The old Merlot vines planted on blue clay lend Haut-Marbuzet’s bouquet superb truffle notes reminiscent of certain old Pomerols. Like many others, the estate experienced a slight dip in form at the start of the 2000s, but its strong comeback in recent years makes it more indispensable than ever in the cellar of any wine lover.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100
Rated: Recommended
About the wine:
Red currants, iron, white pepper, and orange zest, dotted with subtle sweet spices and a hint of chili chocolate. The palate is tight and finely grained, with a medium-to-full body and a tight, juicy finish. The lovely tannic structure and minerality carry through into a long, compact finish. An excellent Saint-Estèphe in this vintage, surpassing many others. Drink now, but best from 2026.
Terre de Vins
Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
The first impression is one of maturity, a blend of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry. The attack confirms this, but the palate and finish reveal a wine that is very structured, straightforward, firm, and intense. The flavor profile is enriched with spices and menthol. While some young wines seem “ready to drink,” this is a classic bottle that will need time to develop.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
What complexity and power this wine possesses! It plays on many levels, revealing itself at times subtly and at others vigorously. Its countless aromatic nuances speak to its subtlety, featuring, among others, hints of Sichuan pepper, peppermint, blueberries, and graphite. Rich and full-bodied, the wine features tannins that are certainly angular but in harmony with the tension of the acidic structure. A wine that is far from revealing all its secrets, but one that clearly displays its ambitions. 2027–2047
Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing
Wine rated (2022 guide) 93-95/100
About the wine:
Fresh and minty, with notes of graphite and ripe black fruit, Ch. Haut-Marbuzet boasts a bouquet that is both quintessentially Médoc and charming. On the palate, it is juicy and linear, with a delicate texture, beautiful tannins, and a barely perceptible hint of oak. It conveys a sense of slow maturation. A truly fine wine in the making. Well done!
