Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
This world-renowned estate is located in Marbuzet, on a hillside overlooking the Gironde River. Its vineyards lie halfway between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. Henri Dubosq, a leading figure in the Médoc, has been crafting the estate’s wines with great success since 1982. In 2006, he partnered with Philippe Jorand, a Michelin-starred chef, to bring out the best in the 13 hectares of Château Layauga-Duboscq, situated on prime terroirs around Gaillan and Queyrac. Haut-Marbuzet’s wines have always been full-bodied, combining roundness and richness, with excellent aging potential. Haut-Marbuzet is truly a superb, must-visit estate within the appellation.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2025 guide) 2* Stars (Remarkable Wine)
About the wine:
A 2021 that shows lovely austerity at this stage, with a nose marked by oak and oriental spices that already hints at emerging complexity: black fruit, forest floor, game, and pencil lead. Firm on the attack, with beautiful density and structure, supported by a tannic framework that is both thick and velvety, the palate reflects the wine’s strong character. The long finish bodes well for the future. One thing is certain: the future belongs to this wine. 2028–2035

Rated Estate (2022 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
True to form, Haut-Marbuzet has crafted a 2021 vintage full of charm—a silky wine with a caressing texture and very well-integrated tannins. The Merlot grapes lend it a lovely roundness and the smoothness that make it so popular.
About the estate:
No other Bordeaux estate can claim to have such a devoted community of wine lovers. For more than thirty years, Haut-Marbuzet and its colorful and dynamic owner, Henri Dubosq—now supported by his sons—have won the hearts of discerning wine connoisseurs. While these wines have long been considered charming in their youth (which they undeniably are), yet limited in terms of aging potential, one must taste the mature vintages of this Saint-Estèphe estate to understand that its terroir is above all capable of producing wines that age beautifully. The old Merlot vines planted on blue clay lend Haut-Marbuzet’s bouquet superb truffle notes reminiscent of certain old Pomerols. Like many others, the estate experienced a slight dip in form in the early 2000s, but its strong comeback in recent years makes it more indispensable than ever in any wine lover’s cellar.

About the wine:
Red currants, iron, white pepper, and orange zest, interspersed with subtle sweet spices and a hint of chili chocolate. The palate is tight and finely grained, with a medium- to full-bodied structure and a tight, juicy finish. The lovely tannic framework and minerality carry through into a long, compact finish. An excellent Saint-Estèphe from this vintage, which outshines many others. Ready to drink now, but will be at its best starting in 2026.
Terre de Vins
Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
The first impression is one of maturity, a blend of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry. The attack confirms this, but the palate and finish reveal a wine that is very structured, straightforward, firm, and intense. The flavor profile is enriched with spices and menthol. While some young wines seem “ready to drink,” this is a classic wine that will need time to develop.
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2023 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
What complexity and power this wine possesses! It plays on many levels, revealing itself at times subtly and at others vigorously. The countless aromatic nuances speak to its subtlety, with hints of Sichuan pepper, peppermint, blueberries, and graphite, among others. Rich and full-bodied, the wine features tannins that are admittedly angular but in harmony with the tension of its acidic structure. This is a wine that is far from revealing all its secrets, but one that clearly displays its ambitions. 2027–2047
Anthocyanes - Yohan Castaing
Wine rated (2022 guide) 93-95/100
About the wine:
Fresh and minty, with notes of graphite and ripe black fruits, Ch. Haut-Marbuzet has a bouquet that is both distinctly Médoc-style and charming. On the palate, it is juicy and linear, with a delicate texture, beautiful tannins, and a barely perceptible hint of oak. It conveys a sense of slow maturation. A truly beautiful wine in the making. Bravo!
