“I really appreciate it for its fresh profile, low alcohol content, and very understated character. A quiet powerhouse! ~ Decanter”

“The bouquet of Lafon Rochet displays great finesse and depth, once again highlighting its commitment to precision and freshness. As for power, it practically jumps out at you! Inviting notes of blueberries and sweet spices are complemented by a hint of peppermint and raspberries. The creamy, slightly smooth attack heralds an inviting and elegant wine. The velvety tannins, while retaining texture and power, blend with the freshness of the acidic structure. This allows the wine to showcase its character, length, and balance. This Lafon Rochet, full of character and ready for the future, can also be enjoyed in its youth. ” (Yves Beck 2026)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

One of the last family-owned estates still under direct management, this 1855 classified growth is the focus of Basile Tesseron’s full attention. With expert guidance from Jean-Claude Berrouet, he draws out the best in his Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes to produce a flavorful, consistent wine that offers exceptional value for money within the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Impressive progress in 2020.

Decanter

Wine rated (2026 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

A wonderful bouquet wafts from the glass—the color is a lovely bright pink right down to the rim. Fruity and juicy from the very first sip, clean, lively, vibrant, and fresh, with a very pleasant underlying note of damp stone. It has structure, but also finesse, as the tannins are present without any harshness or aggressiveness. It has beautiful structure and precision. The finish is extremely long, with that fresh, pleasant note lingering beautifully. I really appreciate it for its fresh profile, low alcohol content, and very understated character. It exudes a quiet strength! You can really sense the Cabernet here; it expresses itself loud and clear. It becomes more full-bodied, round, and relaxed after a few minutes. It will be delicious. A spicy note of licorice and mint on the finish. Round and smooth. Joyful. 2% Petit Verdot rounds out the blend. Aging: 40% in large casks, 15% in new oak barrels, 10% in concrete tanks. pH 3.69. IPT 69. 2030–2042

Rated winery (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these wineries)

About the estate:

This lovely Saint-Estèphe wine has just come under the ownership of businessman Jacky Lorenzetti, who already owns Châteaux Pédesclaux and Lilian Ladouys and is a co-shareholder of Issan. A dedicated team is in charge of taking this wine—which has obvious potential—to even greater heights. It will be very interesting to follow its progress. The previous vintages, produced under the guidance of Basile Tesseron, are quite good and represent good value.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93-94/100

About the wine:

A dense, chocolatey, and well-defined red wine that reveals generous aromas of fruit and bark on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe, fleshy tannins. It has a lovely texture, good concentration, and a long, lively, and flavorful finish.
