Nose

An explosive fragrance that releases notes of crushed raspberry, brandy-soaked cherry, and bitter cocoa. These are complemented by intense floral notes reminiscent of a bouquet of spring flowers, followed by aromas of cedar and sandalwood.

Mouth

A full-bodied attack, rich in volume and richness, leads to a dense palate with a powerful, velvety texture. The generosity of the 2016 vintage is evident in this perfect balance between freshness and richness. Cherry flavors come through fully, enhanced by notes of orange peel, chocolate, and nutmeg. The long finish is accompanied by chalky tannins, characteristic of the great success of Merlot on our asterial limestone terroirs.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2021 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

After passing Cos d’Estournel, and facing Lafon-Rochet, the two towers of Lilian-Ladouys rise from a sea of vines. This 47-hectare estate was purchased by Jacky Lorenzetti in September 2008. As at Pédesclaux, Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen oversees the winemaking. Dense and colorful, the wines are instantly captivating. The archetype of a super Bordeaux.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

In the 14th century, La Doys was a farmstead belonging to Lafite. After enjoying its heyday at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries under the name Château Ladouys, this estate had virtually disappeared. It was revived (and renamed after his wife) by Christian Thiéblot in the 1980s, then by Natexis starting in 1989. In 2008, there was another change of ownership with Jacky and Françoise Lorenzetti (Pédesclaux in Pauillac), who sold their network of real estate agencies to invest in the vineyard. They undertook a vast restructuring program for the 45 hectares of vines.

Wine rating (2018 guide) 91/100 (Excellent wine)

Rated estate (2019 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

The 2016 Lilian Ladouys is a blend of 62% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Petit Verdot, aged in 30% new French oak for 15 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts with notes of baked plums, crème de cassis, and Black Forest cake, along with hints of bay leaf, pencil lead, and menthol. Medium-bodied, elegant, and brimming with vibrant layers of flavor, it finishes with a very long finish.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

With a robust structure, fruit that unfolds on the palate, and abundant yet refined tannins, the 2016 vintage stands out as a benchmark for the estate.

About the estate:

After passing through the hands of several owners who did not always know how to realize its potential, the unassuming Château Lilian Ladouys was purchased by businessman Jacky Lorenzetti in 2008. Lorenzetti, who subsequently acquired Château Pédesclaux in Pauillac and Château Lafon Rochet in Saint-Estèphe, has grand ambitions for his wines. Lilian Ladouys, which has undergone extensive renovations in recent years, has found a very respectable rhythm over the past few vintages. The wine deserves the attention of wine lovers.

About wine:

The aromas of blueberry and blackberry are certainly appealing here. Full-bodied and dense, with a very velvety texture and a long, generous finish of ripe fruit and spices. Best enjoyed starting in 2022.

Still a bit young, decent for the price, but I found it at Intermarché during the recent 2020 wine fair—20% off, not to mention the store card reward points
