About the estate:

After many years at Château Mouton-Rothschild, Hervé Berland is now in charge of managing the two estates acquired by Martin and Olivier Bouygues. Less well-known than Montrose, Château Tronquoy Lalande—a low-key 18-hectare estate in Saint-Estèphe—is one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation. The wines produced there are splendid.

About the wine:

The wine displays great depth and richness on the palate, with the Merlot taking center stage. It has plenty of body and freshness, even if it isn’t among the finest wines in terms of refined elegance. I also tasted a 2005, which was impressive but not as precise as the 2016—which proves just how much the estate has improved over the past 10 years.

About the wine:

The 2016 Tronquoy-Lalande has a deep garnet-purple color and a nose of crushed blackberries and black cherries, with hints of herbs, a cigar box, and damp earth. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it offers good concentration and depth, with firm, refined tannins and a long, aromatic finish.

About the estate:

Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired Tronquoy-Lalande in 2006, a few months after purchasing Château Montrose, located just a stone's throw away. This historic Saint-Estèphe estate retains its independence and distinctive style. Management of the château, like that of Montrose, was taken over in 2012 by Hervé Berland. Of note is the recent production of a beautifully crafted white wine, round and appealing. These wines represent excellent value.

The aromas of violets and flowers are striking in this wine, which is bursting with deep, rich black fruit. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, the tannins are firm yet silky, and the finish is fresh and lively. It displays beautiful depth and resilience. Best enjoyed starting in 2023.

A deep garnet red with violet highlights. A well-defined bouquet revealing notes of graphite and black berries. With aeration, the nose becomes more complex, revealing aromas of chocolate and cedar. A lively, fruit-forward attack. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and expansive, with tannins that provide solid support. The structure is elegant and sustains the aromatic expression through to the finish. A sustained and persistent finish. An imposing wine. 2022–2036

Deep, intense purple color with black highlights. Moderately aromatic on the nose, with fresh, creamy fruit notes. Meticulously crafted on the palate with plenty of flavor, particularly of dark fruit; the wine develops a taut structure, with a finish that has tightened since bottling. Best served after aging.
