Château du Glana
Château du Glana is owned by Gabriel Meffre, a renowned nurseryman from the Vaucluse region, who purchased it in 1961. In the years that followed, he expanded Château du Glana’s vineyard area from 5 to 43 hectares through the successive acquisition of several plots belonging to Château Lagrange, a Third Growth from Saint-Julien, near Bordeaux. Jean-Paul Meffre, assisted by his two young sons, Ludovic and Julien, now manages the estate and has grand ambitions for it: to unlock its untapped potential. Nestled among the greatest classified growths of the Médoc, Château du Glana has experienced unprecedented, steady improvement in quality since 1999.
Year after year, extensive work based on in-depth analysis and a complete overhaul of the Château du Glana vineyard has led to the production of modern wines that embody the elegance, spirit, and authenticity of the exceptional terroirs from which they originate. The complete restoration of Château du Glana’s buildings (fermentation cellar, harvest reception area, barrel cellar, offices, reception hall), the care given to the vineyard, and Professor Denis Dubourdieu’s advice on winemaking converge to achieve a judicious balance between modern methods and respect for tradition, resulting in balanced, velvety, complex wines that are enjoyable in their youth while offering aging potential of over ten years. Château du Glana and Pavillon de Glana, its second wine, are made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes grown using sustainable viticulture practices and ripened on Garonne gravel soils.
