Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2019 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
Owned by a beautiful 18th-century charterhouse, this estate has been in the hands of the Barton family (Château Léoville Barton)—of Irish origin—since 1821, making it one of the few estates to have remained in the same family since the 1855 classification. A tradition that Lilian Barton has carried on since 2006, at the helm of a 51-hectare vineyard divided into four large plots located between the villages of Saint-Julien and Beychevelle.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2021 guide) 92/100 (An outstanding wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The 2018 Langoa Barton has a deep garnet-purple color and notes of ripe blackcurrant, fresh blackberry, and kirsch, with hints of bouquet garni, cedar, and pencil lead, as well as a touch of crushed stone. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, with lively notes of red fruit and herbs that enhance the dark fruit, along with an approachable, velvety texture and a savory finish.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2022 guide) 16,5/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2019 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the wine:
Though often overshadowed by its older sibling, Léoville, Langoa never fails to captivate. This is certainly true of the 2018 vintage, which offers a lovely, rich balance and a silky texture. The tannins are beautifully integrated, and the oak is subtle.
About the estate:
Although little known in France, this small estate produces a beautifully crafted Saint-Julien. Owned by the same family as Léoville Barton—namely Anthony Barton and his daughter, Lilian—it shares a similar style, with a full, generous body and a velvety texture on the palate. It is, however, slightly less deep and a bit more austere with age, but has shown exemplary consistency in recent years. Its price remains affordable, making it a very good value. Widely exported, it is, unfortunately, not easy to find in France.

About the wine:
With a beautiful texture and rich flavors of blackcurrant and tannins, this is a full-bodied wine. The fruit and earthy tannins blend harmoniously to create structure, concentration, balance, and a refreshing finish. Enjoy this wine starting in 2026.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2021 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
Aromas of red currants, cloves, graphite, and a cigar box. Hints of pine and citrus zest as well. It is medium-bodied to full-bodied with firm, tight tannins. Well-structured and lively with plenty of tension. Beautiful sweet fruit on the finish. Try from 2025
