Aligoté
intensity

“Thirty-five-year-old Aligoté vines have produced a superb pale gold wine with silvery highlights. The nose, intense and fresh, evokes citrus, fern, and mint. The palate, full-bodied and round, is enlivened by a lovely liveliness that carries the finish well into the aftertaste. “A true Bouzeron,” exclaims an impressed juror, who highly recommends pairing it with shellfish and crustaceans.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020) A white Burgundy just the way we like it!

Its citrusy notes complement oysters beautifully, and it also pairs exceptionally well with tarama and steamed or gratinated shellfish. Its sharp, full-bodied character enhances veal and poultry in white or creamy sauces, as well as mushroom risottos. Ideal as an aperitif with fresh gougères or with appetizers such as ham with parsley, mixed salads, and quiches… It pairs perfectly with most goat cheeses, Beaufort, Comté, and Cîteaux

Wine rated (2020 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the wine:

The nose is subtle, and the palate is very well-balanced, with expert aging. This wine embodies the true character of the appellation, with toasted and hazelnut notes.

About the estate:

With 80 hectares, Chanzy is one of the largest producers in the Côte Chalonnaise region, producing wines from the Côte Chalonnaise to the Côte de Nuits both on its own estates and through the wine merchant business. The company is owned by a group of passionate investors and shareholders committed to taking the company to new heights. The Jessiaume family oversees the technical side of the estate, practicing “bioraisonné” viticulture and “proteodie” in the cellar, where the wine reacts to musical frequencies during fermentation. The results are promising, and even though some inconsistencies remain, we have identified some excellent vintages.

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

Thirty-five-year-old Aligoté vines have produced a superb pale gold wine with silvery highlights. The nose, intense and fresh, evokes citrus, fern, and mint. The palate, full-bodied and round, is enlivened by a lovely liveliness that carries the finish well into the aftertaste. “A true Bouzeron,” exclaims an impressed juror, who highly recommends pairing it with shellfish and crustaceans.

About the estate:

Located in Bouzeron, where it owns half of the vineyards, this 80-hectare estate (in the Côte Chalonnaise, with vineyards also in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits) has been managed since 2013 by Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume, its estate manager and cellar master, who comes from a long line of winemakers in Santenay. A wine merchant’s house completes the property. A unique feature: malolactic fermentation takes place with music playing, as the harmonic resonance is believed to promote the grapes’ full development.

A pure delight with oysters. Lively and mineral, with a salty finish.

A very well-made wine at a good price. A fine Burgundy—mineral, quite round—that you can enjoy without moderation at a reasonable price.

Tasted in October 2020. Fresh on the nose. Very delicate on the palate. The acidity isn't noticeable; surprising for an Aligoté.
