"Chalky and stony notes mingle with pastry and red to black cherries, leading to a palate that shows good acidity, impressive depth, and weighty tannins. A fresh vintage expression with more intensity on the finish. This one will age very well. Try it from 2024 onwards." " (James Suckling - 2018). The only red Grand Cru in the Côte de Beaune, Corton is also a historic vineyard whose first traces date back to the 2nd century BC. Later, Corton became Charlemagne's favorite wine. It is the only Grand Cru in the Côte d'Or to be divided into sub-climates. "Le Corton" refers to the historic plot that gave its name to the Corton appellation.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this large Beaune-based wine merchant founded in 1731 owns more than 142 plots covering 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage enables Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds and carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

About wine:

Marked by a powdery note, it smells of rum-soaked grapes. This woody expression is not the most noble, as it overwhelms the fruit. The palate is dominated by the power of its terroir.
