Coteaux Bourguignons
The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation is a new appellation recognized in 2011 and reserved for red and white wines produced within the area bounded by the department of Yonne (54 communes), the department of Côte-d'Or (91 communes), the department of Saône-et-Loire (154 communes), and the department of Rhône (85 municipalities). Rosé wines produced within this area are entitled to the Coteaux Bourguignons rosé or Coteaux Bourguignons Clairet appellation.
The distinctive feature of Coteaux Bourguignons is that it can be a blended wine or a single-varietal wine, and sometimes uses ancient grape varieties. The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation has an infinite variety of terroirs, from the chalky subsoil around Joigny in the north to the granite soils of southern Burgundy, including the limestone and marl soils most commonly found in the appellation.
