Coteaux Bourguignons
The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation is a new appellation recognized in 2011 and reserved for red and white wines produced within the area bounded by the Yonne department (54 municipalities), the Côte-d’Or department (91 municipalities), the Saône-et-Loire department (154 municipalities), and the Rhône department (85 municipalities). Rosé wines produced within this area are entitled to the Coteaux Bourguignons rosé or Coteaux Bourguignons Clairet appellation.
The distinctive feature of Coteaux Bourguignons is that it can be either a blended wine or a single-varietal wine, and sometimes utilizes old grape varieties. The Coteaux Bourguignons appellation boasts an infinite variety of terroirs, ranging from the chalky subsoil around Joigny in the north to the granites of southern Burgundy, including the limestone and marl soils most commonly associated with the appellation.
