RVF (G&M)

“A flagship wine of the appellation, this Clos de la Perrière is no stranger to acclaim; the 2013 vintage thus joins the ranks of the ‘magical trilogy’ of 2007–2008–2009 and the sun-drenched 2003 vintage. With an intense purple color and a generous nose of ripe fruit accentuated by subtle oak, the first impressions invite you to explore further. On the palate, one discovers a round, rich, and smooth wine with great length, underpinned by noble oak and velvety tannins that lend it a very refined character. Already harmonious, this Hautes-Côtes will only gain in complexity with age.” (Le Guide Hachette des vins 2016)

About the wine:

A benchmark for the appellation, this Clos de la Perrière is no stranger to acclaim; the 2013 vintage thus joins the ranks of the “magical trilogy” of 2007–2008–2009 and the sun-drenched 2003 vintage. With an intense purple color and a generous nose of ripe fruit accentuated by subtle oak, the first impressions invite you to explore further. On the palate, it reveals a round, rich, and smooth wine with great length, supported by noble oak and velvety tannins that lend it a very refined character. Already harmonious, this Hautes-Côtes will only gain in complexity with age.

About the estate:

The father is Régis; the son is Alexandre. The winemaker is Kyriakos Kynigopoulos, a renowned specialist born in Greece. On their 19-hectare estate, they skillfully showcase the Burgundian terroirs, as evidenced by the numerous “favorite” designations their wines from the Côte de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes have received.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Excellent)

About the wine:

Beneath its light carmine hue, the graphite-like woodiness fills the glass. A smooth and generous opening of Burlat cherry with a hint of Black Forest chocolate leaves a del-i-cious flavor on the palate. A liquid treat to share with friends. Kudos to the creators.

I'm disappointed because it doesn't live up to the reviews in the Hachette guide. Maybe I had too high expectations?
