Domaine Parigot - Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Clos de la Perrière 2013
2*Coup de Coeur

RVF (G&M)
"A benchmark for the appellation, this Clos de la Perrière is no stranger to acclaim; the 2013 vintage thus joins the ranks of the 'magical trilogy' of 2007–2008–2009 and the sun-drenched 2003 vintage. With an intense purple hue and a generous nose of ripe fruit highlighted by subtle oak, the first impressions invite you to explore further. And on the palate, we discover a round, rich, and smooth wine with great length, supported by noble oak and velvety tannins that give it a very refined character. Already harmonious, this Hautes-Côtes will only gain in complexity with time.” (Le Guide Hachette des vins 2016)

About the estate:
The father is Régis; the son is Alexandre. The winemaker is Kyriakos Kynigopoulos, a renowned specialist born in Greece. On their 19-hectare estate, they skillfully showcase the Burgundian terroirs, as evidenced by the numerous “favorite” awards their wines from the Côte de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes have received.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Excellent)
About the wine:
Beneath its deep crimson hue, the wine’s graphite-tinged oak notes fill the glass. A smooth, generous opening of Burlat cherries with a hint of Black Forest chocolate leaves a del-i-cious flavor on the palate. A liquid treat to share with friends. Kudos to the winemakers.

Disappointed because it didn't live up to the reviews in the Hachette guide. Maybe I had too high expectations?

A crisp attack and acidity that lingers on the palate. Lacks body, though the finish is quite long.

A wine of great finesse! Very floral and fruity, with notes of raspberry and wild berries. Full-bodied and supple on the palate, with toasty undertones and incredibly smooth tannins. A delight!
