Mâcon-Igé
The Mâcon-Igé AOP appellation area borders the Mâcon-Azé appellation to the north, while to the south its boundary coincides with the village of Verzé and the Mâcon-Verzé geographical designation. In the 1920s and 1930s, the region’s main cooperative wineries were established in this valley.
Since the 2005 decree, the name “Mâcon” followed by “Igé” designates white, red, and rosé wines produced within the area delimited by the village of Igé alone.
Area under production (average between 2016 and 2018): Whites: 45 ha Reds: 13 ha.
Grape varieties used: Chardonnay for whites, Gamay for reds and rosés.
The white wines have a rather aromatic, sunny, and supple character.
The reds offer aromatic opulence and a full-bodied palate.
