Bret Brothers
Bret Brothers is the wine merchant founded in 2001 by brothers Jean-Guillaume and Jean-Philippe Bret shortly after they took over the family estate Soufrandière, located in Vinzelles in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region. The estate was founded in 1947 by Jules Bret and historically comprises 4 hectares of Pouilly-Vinzelles “Les Quarts” and 0.55 hectares of Pouilly-Vinzelles “Les Longeays.” All the vines, ranging in age from 25 to 70 years, are beautifully situated on the middle and upper slopes of a clay-limestone hillside with a southeast exposure. In 2004, the estate resumed cultivation of two parcels in Mâcon-Vinzelles (totaling 1.60 hectares), including the famous “Clos de Grand-Père.” Then, in 2006 and 2008, the estate acquired 3 hectares in the Beaujolais-Leynes appellation. In 2012, the cellar expansion project was completed, enabling them to vinify, age, and store the wines under optimal conditions.

Bret Brothers: A Demanding Business

Bret Brothers was founded with the goal of producing great terroir-driven wines from the Mâconnais region. Since the essence of the wine merchant’s business is to craft wine using grapes purchased from growers, a high standard of quality is essential to producing great wines. To achieve this, the company Bret Brothers has established specific criteria that enable it to achieve its goal: - Purchasing grapes directly from the vineyard, certified organic or in conversion, all monitored and certified by Ecocert - Selection of micro-plots of old vines - Hand-harvesting - Vinification using indigenous yeasts - Aging and vinification in their cellar All these elements enable Bret Brothers to produce wines of the same caliber as those produced by the Soufrandière Estate.

Bret Brothers: What are their wine labels?

Most of the wines from Bret Brothers are white wines from the Mâconnais region made from Chardonnay. Since 2013, there have also been a few red wines from the Beaujolais region made from Gamay. For wines from the Mâconnais region, Bret Brothers offers a wide range of appellations from this area, from Mâcon to Viré-Clessé, including the Saint-Véran and the Pouilly-Fuissé, as well as the various styles available for each. This diversity offers a good overview of the wines produced in the region, not to mention that each cuvée is crafted with the same care. This allows us to bring out the best in every terroir of the Mâconnais. Mâcon appellation wines can be enjoyed now, while the Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé These wines can be cellared for 2–3 years, or even longer if you prefer. As for Beaujolais wines, Bret Brothers also produces some excellent wines, including Beaujolais Lantignié, Fleurie, Juliénas, and Fleurie. You can enjoy them right away or after a short period of aging, which will allow them to develop their full range of aromas.
