Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2026 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

Fruity and flavorful, with a rich, indulgent character, the nose is concentrated, expressive, and airy, with notes of red berries and subtle toasted aromas. Refined and elegant on the palate, it offers a distinct length supported by a fresh minerality.

About the estate:

Located in Charly-sur-Marne, in the heart of the Marne Valley, Maison Charpentier was founded in 1855. Today, Jean-Marc Charpentier, representing the eighth generation, runs this family-owned estate. A specialist in Pinot Meunier, he tends to his twenty-four hectares of vineyards as if they were a garden. The hillside vineyard, comprising seventy-two plots, is 45% Chardonnay, complemented by Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Certified organic, it has been successfully transitioned to biodynamic farming. The precise, plot-by-plot winemaking process results in a harmonious and refined range of wines, combining aromatic freshness and rich character. A producer to watch very closely.

Wine noted (guide 2026) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) Featured (Successful wine)

About the wine:

Made from 80% Pinot Noir, this floral and fruity "blanc de noirs" is full-bodied and pleasant, with a lovely character.

About the estate:

In the mid-19th century, an ancestor who was both a winemaker and an innkeeper supplied wine (which was still still at the time) to the boatmen who pulled barges along the Marne River. At the helm since 1988, Jean-Marc Charpentier exports 30% of his champagnes. He cultivates 24 hectares in the vicinity of Château-Thierry. Noteworthy: the high proportion of Chardonnay (45%)—rare in the region—in the vineyard’s grape varieties, and the early adoption of an environmental approach: the estate, currently in the process of converting to organic farming, has been managed using biodynamic methods since 2009.

Rated Category: Recommended (Recommended)

About the wine:

Chalk and cream: two ways to describe the bouquet of this champagne, which is both alluring and subtle. The palate is smooth and rich in roasted aromas, with notes of fresh coffee and warm bread, and a lovely freshness on the finish, accompanied by just the right touch of bitterness to make it mouthwatering.

About the wine:

The Terre d'Émotion NV Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs is a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier, made from grapes harvested in Charly-sur-Marne and Saulchery, and aged for five years on the lees. On the nose, a lively, fresh note evokes tart red apples. The palate is equally fresh, tart, and lively. A fine mousse adds elegance to the supple palate, which unfolds with finesse and a supple texture. The finish is wonderfully clean and flavorful.
