Champagne Janisson-Baradon & Fils - Brut Tradition
14,5/20
Gault & Millau
A very nice Brut Tradition for an aperitif or to start a meal, offering a very delicious fruity nose with notes of vine peach and grape. It has a beautiful liveliness of bubbles on the palate, which is most effective. A Champagne that faithfully reflects the terroir of the Janisson-Baradon plots... A beautiful entry-level wine!

Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Located in the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the capital of Champagne, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and this year once again, single vineyard selections dominated the tasting, with champagnes displaying assertive character while retaining the suppleness typical of the region. A sure bet.

About the estate:
Located in the hills above Épernay, this estate was founded in 1922 by a remouleur (wine blender) and a cooper. Today, it is run by their descendants, Maxence and Cyril Janisson, the former managing the business and the latter working in the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have more than 9 hectares of vines. HVE-certified property.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rating (2013 guide) 14.5/20 (Good)
1*Star rating (Serious production)
About wine:
The nose of this brut opens with panache, revealing notes of verbena, menthol, candied citrus, and chalk. The palate is racy and very taut, with an insistent minerality that adds depth. The superb dosage does not detract from the expression of the terroir. A very fine brut that expresses, above all, its origin!
About the estate:
Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a riddler, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the house is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vines on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. Since 1997, the vineyard has been maintained by tilling the soil, without the use of any weedkillers. Most of the cuvées are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
