“The Chardonnay has reached full maturity in this great Champagne vintage. It compensates for the absence of dosage in this full-bodied, dense cuvée, while still retaining a very youthful character. It will age gracefully over the coming years.” (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2019 - RVF). A unique Brut Nature cuvée for purists!

Wine rated (2020 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)

Rated estate (2027 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

Beautiful saline intensity with good structure and finesse.

About the estate:

Didier and Olivier Gimonnet carry on the family estate, cultivating 30 hectares and 40 plots across five villages on the Côte des Blancs—Cuis, Cramant, Oger, Chouilly, and Vertus—from which they strive to produce the purest expressions of these wines, with low dosages. As true lovers of the vineyard, their viticultural approach is focused on respecting the soil and promoting biodiversity. Pioneers in plot-by-plot winemaking in stainless-steel tanks, in the art of blending, and in producing truly dosage-free champagnes, the Gimonnet style is recognizable for its refined, precise, and elegant complexity.

Rated Estate: Award-Winning Wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

The Gimonnet de Cuis family traces its roots back to the 18th century. The champagne house was founded in the 1920s by Pierre. His son Michel was an early adopter of single-vineyard winemaking. After joining the estate in the 1980s, his grandsons Didier and Olivier took over in 1996. They manage a large estate (29 hectares) in the Côte des Blancs, comprising Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. Their lineup features Blanc de Blancs, with the exception of rosé.

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2012 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru Oenophile has a very appealing appearance, offering a pure bouquet of citrus oil, damp stones, and subtle notes of gingerbread. On the palate, it is medium-bodied to full-bodied, deep and chalky, with a well-integrated, incisive acidity, good depth and concentration at the mid-palate, and a long, mineral finish. This steel-gray Blanc de Blancs will appeal to more than just purists.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2027 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

This Chardonnay, sourced primarily from Cramant and Chouilly, with some from Cuis and Oger, offers a beautifully silky, full-bodied profile. It is perfectly silky and well-balanced. This harmonious vintage is a delight to drink right now.

About the estate:

Few Champagne winemakers can claim, as Didier and Olivier Gimonnet do, to manage a 28-hectare estate in the Côte des Blancs, including 12 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in Cuis, Vertus, Cramant, Chouilly, and Oger. The two brothers continue the tradition of blending terroirs, upholding their refined, understated style—free of any harshness (thanks to malolactic fermentation) and never overly exuberant—appealing to novices and connoisseurs of great Blanc de Blancs alike. The Gimonnets brilliantly tame the Chardonnays of Cuis, which are often cold and austere.
