“Two-thirds red grapes (including 55% Meunier) and one-third white grapes make up this brut, which is often described in these pages. Its yellow-gold color is enlivened by lively bubbles; its nose builds in intensity with fruity, honeyed, and brioche notes; and on the palate, it displays fullness and richness accentuated by the dosage, with a lovely freshness to balance it all.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

About the wine:
This brut, often described in these pages, is composed of two-thirds black grapes (55% of which are Meunier) and one-third white grapes. Its yellow-gold color is enlivened by lively bubbles; its nose builds in intensity with fruity, honeyed, and brioche notes; and on the palate, it displays fullness and richness accentuated by the dosage, with a lovely freshness to balance it all.
About the estate:
Since 1970, Pierre and Yveline Mignon have been running the family estate located in the Surmelin Valley, a tributary of the Marne, on the left bank. Their vineyards—covering no less than 18 hectares in the Marne Valley, on the slopes of Épernay and the Côte des Blancs—are not sufficient to support their business growth. When Jean-Charles and Céline joined the business in 2000, the estate transitioned to the status of a wine merchant. It opened a boutique in Épernay featuring “Food and Wine” workshops.

Raw and rough—no one finished their glass. Nice color, not much aroma. Too bad.

Here, Chardonnay takes center stage. The wine is good, but we could have done without the sulfites, which give many people headaches.

A great champagne—complex and flavorful—that unfurls its flawless character on the palate, with the wine’s vibrant yellow freshness. By comparison, the Louis Roederer Brut Premier, priced at €35, pales in comparison.

A well-made Champagne, to be sure, but a classic one. Fresh, with citrus notes; a nice choice for an appetizer with seafood.
