Champagne Taittinger
Taittinger is one of the most renowned houses in Champagne.
The Taittinger Champagne House’s vineyards cover 288 hectares, part of which are cultivated using mass selection methods in accordance with sustainable farming practices. This approach gives the wines their unique complexity and character. The champagnes are crafted in the purest Champagne tradition, with careful vinification and meticulous blending, followed by precise and attentive work in the estate’s Gallo-Roman chalk cellars. Champagne Taittinger’s wines have always included a high proportion of Chardonnay, the house’s true signature, and deliver a unique character and personality that place it among the elite of today’s Champagne region.
Pierre Taittinger, the founder.
Pierre Taittinger developed a passion for Champagne after discovering the region while serving as a liaison officer during World War I. A few years later, this lover of fine cuisine and wine returned there, settling down to establish and develop the House of Taittinger. He worked hard there, and his first reward came in the early 1930s because his premier grape variety, Chardonnay, allowed him to capture its essence in bottles of Champagne, bringing to its peak what is expected of this wine: finesse, lightness, and unforgettable grace. Today, his descendants, particularly Vitalie Taittinger, carry on his legacy and his success in winning over tables in every country. You cannot create magnificent wines without giving nature the time to mature and flourish. For Taittinger’s Champagnes, the transformation into Champagne takes place at the heart of Gallo-Roman chalk cellars—preserved cellars that give the bottles the time and years they need. Between three and five years for the Bruts, but one must have the patience to wait up to ten years for the vintage wines; in short, it is not a science of waiting but an art. Added to this is the preservation of this vineyard, endowed with exceptional genetics—a requirement of the viticultural experts working on the estate. While Chardonnay plays a central role, they do not overlook Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in crafting all the cuvées.
