Bodegas Mauro - Terreus 2012
97/100
Robert Parker
“The 2012 Terreus is a single-vineyard selection from old Tempranillo vines in the village of Tudela de Duero. [...] The color is dark, ruby, and brilliant (not black at all). The nose is very precise, with aromas of red berries; it is subtle and complex, with lovely freshness. On the palate, it is less spectacular than in previous vintages—more restrained and serious, with a beautiful balance. It has all the qualities needed to age well in the bottle. [...] With this new style, the wine can be enjoyed now, butit will gain complexity and depth if you have the patience to keep your bottles. It appearsthere will be no Terreus in 2013.” (Wine Advocate 2015 – Robert Parker)

About the wine:
The 2012 Terreus is a single-vineyard selection from old Tempranillo vines in the village of Tudela de Duero. In 2012, they added grapes from younger vines planted on very chalky soils at higher altitudes to produce a more elegant and fresh wine, as is the case here. The color is dark, ruby, and brilliant (not black at all). The nose is very precise, with aromas of red berries; it is subtle and complex, with lovely freshness. The palate is less spectacular than in previous vintages; it’s tighter and more serious, with a lovely balance. It has all the qualities needed to age well in the bottle for a long time. They still age the wine in new oak barrels, but thanks to changes in viticulture—resulting in higher acidity and lower alcohol—the oak has a different impact on the wine. Here, the oak even takes a back seat. With this new style, the wine can be enjoyed now, but it will gain complexity and depth if you have the patience to keep your bottles. It appears there will be no Terreus in 2013.
