Bodegas Canopy

Bodegas Canopywas founded in 2003 by two winemakers, Alfonso Chacón and Belarmino Fernández. In the Sierra de San Vicente, south of Toledo, at an elevation of 750 meters, they gradually acquired 19 plots, primarily planted with old Grenache vines in the Mentrida appellation. Abandoned by winegrowers who preferred to plant international grape varieties on the plains, these plots were destined to be uprooted. The duo is thus restoring the prestige of this unique terroir, with its cool climate that locks in aromas, sandy soils resting on a granite bedrock, and scattered plots separated by forests of juniper and wild fig trees. The pair also owns modern Syrah vineyards and steeply sloped schist plots that bring rich biodiversity to the Bodegas Canopy estate.
