Bodegas Mustiguillo
Bodega Mustiguillo is located on the high plateau of the Valencia region, at an altitude of over 800 meters, and was founded by Toni Sarrión in 1999 with the aim of restoring the reputation of Bobal, a remarkable native Valencian grape variety (easily recognizable for its beautifully balanced acidity and unique color among all southern varieties). Bodega Mustiguillo’s 89-hectare vineyard is certified organic, and yields are extremely low, ranging from 12 to 18 hl/ha. The climate is continental in character, despite being in a Mediterranean region, strongly influenced by altitude and distance from the sea, with low rainfall and significant temperature variations between day and night. The soil is sandy-clay with a high sediment density, resting on a limestone subsoil that outcrops at a depth of only 60 cm to 1 m.
In 2010, Bodega Mustiguillo was ranked among the "Grandes Pagos de España" (equivalent to our grands crus), alongside illustrious names such as AALTO and MAS DOIX. Often highlighted by Ferran Adrià, owner of the world’s best restaurant, El Bulli, the top vintages (Quincha Corral and Finca Terrerazo) are regularly rated 94 and 95 by Peñín and 92 to 95 by Robert Parker.
