Florina
The Florina appellation takes its name from the town it borders in Western Macedonia and has its roots in this magnificent region of northern Greece, dating back to the 2000s.
This PGI borders the Amynteo PDO and encompasses many typical Greek grape varieties:
Among the whites, Assyrtiko and Roditis are notably cultivated; these are two very ancient Greek varieties, as traces of their names can be found in writings dating back to the first century AD (Roditis is, moreover, recognizable by its characteristic pinkish skin)
For reds, Mavrodaphne (known as "black laurel") is also grown, as well as Xinomavro, emblematic of Greece and particularly of Central Macedonia.

In terms of climate, the Florina appellation is generally characterized by very cold winters and very dry summers, but rainfall in the fall and winter creates a magnificent balance, making summers bearable for the vines as they draw their water reserves from the abundant groundwater.
