Kir-Yianni
The Kir-Yianni estate was founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris, one of the leading figures in the Greek wine industry, when he left the Boutari Wine Group, a wine-making company founded by his grandfather in 1879.
He began his winemaking journey by planting 40 hectares of Xinomavro, Greece's iconic red grape variety, on the eastern slopes of Mount Vermion in Yianakohori, near the town of Naoussa. Fifteen years later, 20 hectares of white grape varieties were added to the vineyard on the hills west of Mount Vermion in the Amýntaio region, including Assertyko, another typical Greek grape variety.
Thus, with this magnificent enrichment of the terroir, Kir-Yianni produced its first vintage in 1997.
In 1999, Stellios Boutaris, son of Yiannis and member of the fifth generation, took Kir-Yianni to the next stage in its history, dynamically exploiting the foundations of Kir-Yianni's philosophy: a desire for innovation, respect for tradition, and a true knowledge of wine, from the grape to the glass.
The 2000s marked the completion of the estate, with the acquisition of nearly 40 additional hectares, notably of Xinomavro and other Greek varieties, making Kir-Yanni one of the largest vineyards in Greece.
Integrated agriculture, separate parcel harvesting, micro-vinification, and careful selection of aging woods: throughout all these years, Kir-Yianni has been committed to getting the best out of its terroir, innovating, and offering wines of sublime quality for tasting.
