“A vibrant Brunello, full of life, with extreme richness and smoothness, according to The Wine Advocate—perfect for drinking now or cellaring for about ten years”

"The 2020 Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino is balanced, finely textured, and has a lovely mouthfeel. This vibrant Brunello is full of life. Red and purple fruits mingle with soft earth and iris root. I particularly love the mouthfeel achieved here. It is this combination of richness and extreme smoothness that sets it apart. [...] 2025–2040” (Wine Advocate – Robert Parker 2024)

Wine rated (2024 guide) 94/100

About the wine:

Due to high temperatures and dry conditions, Laura Brunelli notes that yields were even lower than the estate’s already modest average yields. That is why she decided to forgo a Riserva in 2020 and use the best of the harvest for this bottling. This wine perfectly illustrates the floral character of the vintage, with aromas of lavender and plum blossom wafting from the glass. Exotic spices, cinchona, and bitter orange add complexity to the palate, which reveals the warmth of summer with seductive ripeness and a generous structure. It finishes with talc-like tannins and a pleasant tension. 2025–2034

About the wine:

Medium ruby color. Aromas of cardamom, morocco leather, and hints of sea salt and minerals. Compact, youthful on the palate, with cherry flavors and delicious, chewy tannins that dominate the aromatic, fruity finish. Great potential, 2025–2034

About the wine:

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino captivates with its alluring bouquet of crushed cherries and strawberries, enhanced by notes of mint, cedar, and saddle leather. It is a more graceful and elegant style, with medium-bodied textures and pure notes of wild berries carried by a wave of lively acidity. The 2020 offers hints of licorice and blue and violet flowers, while leaving a subtle layer of fine tannins that beautifully frame the experience. 2026–2036

Rated: Recommended

About the wine:

This wine has a complex, balsamic profile. The nose offers notes of dried flowers, licorice, raspberries, and redcurrants. It is crisp and juicy, with a full body and firm, chalky tannins due to its youth. However, it is smooth and balanced on the finish. It needs a little time to come together, but it is a delicious wine with excellent potential for the long term. Best after 2025.
